I was surprised last night as I was sitting on the floor watching the girls play with their new toys and my cat Huly walked in. Now Huly is NOT a normal cat. He has 1 eye half a tail wears an ECollar on and off (currently on) and I have raised him since he was 3 weeks old. The girls came flying to the cage to get Huly's attention. They were nose to nose through the grate and Louise was petting/ grabbing his tail. They got upset when he walked away and excited every time he came back.

Now Huly sleeps in the chair watching them (does the same with our rats and fish). He gets along with fish they come running to see him when he sits by the tank same with rats. He does bully the dogs but he has zero hunting drive. He gets excited for the garbage man. I would never have them loose together but it was cool to see they like him.

I know Temulin has been successful with bonding her sugar glider with her old cat and a new one. I bet she'd be happy to talk to you if you were interested in her techniques or something. As a warning, this is definitely not for every cat/other species. Please be very cautious when letting your suggies around other pets.

Oh yeah! I trust Huly more than anyone but I would never have them loose together. Huly likes to sit and watch them in their cage but it was so cool to see them get excited that Huly walked in. They came running to where he was at and were nose to nose with him through the bars. They initiated the contact so I am glad they aren't scared of him.

Just a note, we here at GliderCENTRAL do not advocate or recommend that you allow your gliders to interact or bond with your other pets.

It only takes one swipe, with all the bacteria that cats have in their claws. One wrong step with a dog and you have a glider with a broken bone or worse yet a broken back.

They come running over to him.

I would never have them loose together as no matter how good he is accidents happen.

I just don't know if this is normal for gliders or rare?

They are curious about each other, that is why they come over.

Or they could be talking smack to the cat about him having to wear the cone of shame. :rofl2:

My gliders have tried to check out the parrots when they get loose, but I don't want them getting near those big beaks.

Sh it's not a Cone of Shame it's a Party Hat LOL Huly puts it on and takes it off on his own (tail issue not sure nerve, mental, missing limb syndrome as he shows signs for all the above). I told you he is not a NORMAL cat!

Huly can't get them if he wanted to through the bars. He doesn't have front claws and that "Party Hat" would get in the way. It's funny though as when he gets bored watching they get upset when he leaves and runs to the side watching him walk off. It's cute!

Now I am a freak about safety even accidental. Yes I trust Huly but he is 14lbs and can pack a punch with his front paws. Just trying to play he could scare or hurt them accidentally. My Redbone Coonhound puppy is not allowed in the room. She has only smelled an empty pouch. She is 60lbs of puppy power. I don't trust her as one she is a puppy and two she is a hound. Now Gibbs my basset hound I would allow near the cage but not free he is bff with every wild bunny, has helped raise baby bunnies and birds. They follow him through the yard but he too is 60lbs and even at 12 clumsy. He trips over his own feet so no he is not allowed near them either.

But I don't see any harm that Huly and them look at each other through the cage. Do y'all? Huly can't get in and they can't get out

Yes! All the time! If you ask him where his party hat is he will take you to it and he has even put it on his favorite stuffed bear's head. We have found it there multiple times LOL. I know he is weird lol!

My dog is curious about the gliders, and they have climbed on her before, but she doesn't like anything on her fur so she shook them off and I got scared >< My cat doesn't like them and usually goes the opposite direction if she sees them out with us.

Oye, I'm one of those that has to keep my doggies and cats away from the gliders.

My dogs are Italian Greyhounds (breed to chase small rodents) so they get excited (not in a good way) around the gliders.

Yeah I don't trust my Coonhound puppy anywhere near the cage. She is barrded from the room.

When they are out Huly is not allowed around but through bars it is cute. I trust Huly but accidents can happen

if the german sheperds or beagle are in the room, the gliders have to stay on me next to the cage. the dogs are well trained to stay away or stay put. but if the gliders start to jump off me then its game over back in cage until I can take them downstairs to playroom, or dogs are in backyard.

The dog integration thing was a big concern for me at first. My dogs are obsessed with the gliders. The dogs come in and bounce on me to get me up, in the night, "Dad! Dad! The sugar-babies are up!"
They watch the cage a lot, and Chelsea has learned to keep her nose off the bars the hard way. (chomp!)
But gradually they have gotten closer to each other. Both are nervous of each other, but reaching out.
At this point, they have been known to touch noses, and both the dogs have been "Jumped" repeatedly--the panic attacks are manageable.
So far so good. I find the challenge is to keep the dog calm and keep everyone positive. (lots of treats being distributed.)
So...success so far. I think the next milestone here will be to get them all to the point where they are calm and relaxed around each other.

Oh my word, that coned cat is so adorable and looks kinda like my cat? Hard to tell from the picture, but is it a grey kitty too? I recently found out my poor sweet Haricotamus is a mutant. She grew herself an extra organ and had to have major surgery that resulted in the vet taking out half of her thyroid system. She is only 2 so she bounced back just fine, but weirdo cats are the best. Maybe the gliders thought the cat was their new satellite TV. tounge

Fevy and Hari get along well but it took a lot of careful training. I agree, it is not for all pets/circumstances. I was very cautious when I first introduced Hari. Before that, I had an older kitty who had been around birds and hamsters and guinea pigs before. Fev was so bonded to her. I really think he got a little depressed when she died. I'm glad things worked out well so he could have another kitty friend to snuggle with. He had never seen a kitten before and was very curious about her at first. She was way too small and unaware of her surroundings to hurt him, so when I brought her home I held her up to Fevy expecting him to sniff her and be all "hello, new friend." Nope. He slapped her nose and literally made her cry. After that Hari has had a lot of respect for Fevy. tounge He eventually accepted her as his little sister.

Huly is black, one eye half a tail kitty. I bottle fed him from 2 weeks old so he doesn't know he is a cat. He is a human child lol. He has mastered the art of saying "mom" lol.

Aww he's adorable! For some reason, he looked grey in the photo. What a pretty pirate cat!

I have a 9 month old puppy. She's a mix. She is so curious about Roo and will go up to her cage and they go nose to nose checking each other out. Now it's not a big deal if Jaz goes up to the cage. Roo just ignores her and Jaz usually just wants Roo's crumbs from eating. Roo has gotten loose on me and Jaz did chase her. Roo turned around and crabbed at Jaz and bit her. Jaz stopped in her tracks, sat down and looked at me like she was saying, "Hey Mom, what was that all about?"

I know I will never trust them to be on the floor together. Once Roo moves, Jaz thinks it's time to chase.

The only thing I fear in life is living without love.

This is the big problem, dogs are so much bigger then gliders and one accidental wrongly placed paw could leave a glider paralyzed or dead.

Not to mention if a large dog gets that small glider in his or her mouth.

Cats have bacteria in their saliva and in their paws that is difficult to treat with the antibiotic resistant bacteria out there.

The bottom line no matter that people say they don't smell like prey they still move like a chipmunk.
