Houdi does not bark very often. Last night he barked and I went in to check on him and when I spoke to him, he started crabbing. He was in his pouch. Is that odd that he would bark from his pouch?

As far as crabbing, he crabs when we talk to him when he's trying to sleep...when he's in his pouch and cannot see us. But he never crabs when he sees us. So, if we remove his pouch from the cage and he crabs, as soon as he can see us, he stops.

All of the behaviors you have described are perfectly normal.

Crabbing when he is trying to sleep is his way of telling you he does not wish to be disturbed mush like our grumbling when we are disturbed. Also their way of scaring away a potential predator or unwelcome visitor.
Once he sees it is you, it's okay.

We had the same thing happen with Artemis this week. Sleepy barking from the pouch then sleepy crabbing when we checked on him. Then we had a repeat of it 5 minutes later. He's not much of a barker either, but he will bark if I sleep in the same room. Not an alarmed bark, more conversational.
