I have 2 gliders and my males anal glands swell sometimes well this last time it lasted longer so I took him to the vet and they poked a hole and drained it and they sent a urine sample to an exotic vet they also told me that it his stomach as somehow moved down to his butt area. The results just came back and they said his pacific gravity is low and they want another urine sample but they want it early morning before he eats or drinks anything. what's going on with my baby I've had him for a year i don't know what's happening to him or what to do the vet said they may have to do surgery to move his stomach back up? What should I do? Anyone ever heard of this happening? frown

MatracaD - Ufortunately, I don't have any advice to offer you.

But you may want to start your own thread in this section. You'll probably get more answers that way.

Did he tell you why he thought the stomach "moved"?

That's all they told me they don't know how it happened but they want me to bring him in again Saturday to do another urine test. I was helping him pee today and the swellen went down a lot but its still swollen. There new to sugar gliders I think this is there first year actually working with them. I just hope they know what they're doing I might look for another vet.

If they want the urine before he eats or drinks anything, it would not be early morning (as that would be right after he finished eating/drinking recently). You would need to get a sample in more towards the evening (making sure he did not have any water or food during the day - like maybe keep him in a bonding pouch all day until you get a sample).

Take a plastic Rubbermaid tote box and put some very very hot water in it and swish it around for a few minutes then let it dry and that will clean it. Take out the glider just before he wakes up at night and place him in the tote and place a piece of cardboard over the top and hold it on there for a few minutes and he should pee fairly quickly.

As for the rest of the vet visit I would get a second opinion before doing any surgery as abdominal surgery almost never goes very well.

You may want to provide your vet with the list of CONSULT VETS. They will be able to discuss the symptoms and hopefully assist with an accurate diagnosis.

Good luck and please keep up posted!

Honestly I think you should find another vet. I have had gliders with anal gland issues, one so severe as to have his glands removed, and it has nothing to do with the stomach. Watch him, as if they damaged the internal chambers in the glands with the needle you could now be looking at a chronic issue

Ok I took him today and they said it's his bladder that has moved and they said I need to take him to a vet that has the equipment to do the surgery to put his bladder back where it goes. I live in Gainesville Georgia and I don't know of any good vets that will work with me on the money issue and that is good at what they do.

Kelpie passed away today his one of his back legs was limp and I don't know why and his eyes looked sunken in. I think he was dehydrated but I had water in there and I made sure I put some apple in there after they ate. I don't know what to day I think my female is pregnant as well and now he wont be there to help her out. What should I do?

I'm so sorry to hear that hug2 hug2

The best thing to do is preserve his body so you can have a necropsy done and determine the actual cause of death. PUt him in a Ziplock in the refrigerator, not the freezer.

You can contact The Sugar Group and they can tell you the details of where he can be sent to. HERE is their page.

I'm sorry for your loss. hug2 Glide free little Kelpie. :rbridge:

You may want to start a separate post to get advice for the mom when/if you need it. Going to move this to Rainbow Memorials now.
