Past posts with bonding with Button easily can show my worry and frustration. For the past few days Ive left her in her pouch and rubbed her through it. I discovered not too long ago, weird enough that she likes me more when Im freshly showered with Axe body wash. I dont know what it is about it, but at the moment I have my hand in her pouch rubbing her while she sleeps. From time to time Ill open the pouch and she will wake up and look at me. Ill rub her tummy some more and watch her fall right back to sleep. It makes me feel amazing to see her actually choosing to let me near her. Ive been letting her lick some hpw off my fingers as thats the onlything she will take from me. She still crabs abit, but when she smells my hand she pushes herself under my fingers and falls back asleep. I know its a constant thing and in an hour she will probrolly crab and bite at me again, hopefully when I get the pouch protective pouch it will help.

annnd she just had a fit when i took my hand out and slowly put it back in. i dont touch her when i do it, i put it on the side she isnt, she crabs, bites then crawls into my hand and licks me to death. lol. i dont get it!!! i guess im worried she thinks im two different people. she knows what my face looks like but she tends to be sweeter when i wash my hands with axe. am i ever going to beable to handle her with my own scent?

i think shes grooming me right now smile im so confused!!!!!

Gliders rely on scent before sight and hearing. She associates the Axe fragrance with you now. I'd say, until she bonds with you completely, she'll keep associating you with it. When I have new gliders I'm bonding with, I don't use anything different. With the ones who are bonded to me, it doesn't matter what I use.

It could also be her way of telling you that you're waking her up too much and she wants to just sleep. Roo will "Psssst" me if I wake him up too many times. Not fun when he's on meds. LOL!

Do you let her see you before you put your hand in the pouch? I've had a few that needed to see me as I put my hand in the bag. Talk to her while she's crabbing. She will get better.

My little Marma is 1 1/2 yrs and still crabs when her pouch is messed with. She's a princess and needs her beauty sleep. LOL cloud9

Ive used axe body wash from the get go but recently havnt been showering right in the morning. I have been at night so I guess its new to her since I usually see her right after word. I guess I should just continue to wash my hands with it before interacting with her? I def dont wanna confuse her!

Yes I always make sure she sees my face before I put my hand in, and she crabs like crazy. Then when I put my hand in she will smell and lick it and then look at me with those big beautiful eyes for a sec and then start to crawl under my hand. but occasionally if I peek in she will crab her butt off again. lol Im guessing because of the light and me accidently waking her up. I cant help it tho, the thought of her all curled up under my hand sleeping happily just makes me wanna see ssssoooooo bad!!

LOL! At least she's not skunking you every time you look at her. I have one of those special skunkers. One day the kids came home from school and I was so excited Stella hadn't crabbed or skunked me. The youngest kid looked at her and messed it all up. Stella went to crabbing and skunked her big time.

My youngest said,"Guess she doesn't like my face." clown

Ive heard they Skunk. Im wondering if our other glider Stitch is doing that. shes not a pouch pooper and her pouch has been really smelly. We will usually clean them let them sleep in the for a day or two and then switch so hey can get eachother scent. Maybe stitch is smelling button and scenting or something? I have no clue but pee--uuuu Ive been doing alot of laundry!

When a glider is scared, they produce a scent that smells like a skunk smell. Joeys do this quite often! I've noticed right after cleaning cages, my gliders will mark the bars with a white, milky liquid, that comes from their cloaca. This has a different scent than the skunk sent, but isn't the most pleasant of smells.

You may want to see if you can handle Button on your chest. She can look up at your face or sleep under your hands for security. If she gets restless have her pouch ready so she can go back into it, then I would shadow her as she goes in the pouch with my hand. When she gets in pouch I would hold my hand still over her until she settles down. You may want to try this in a glider safe room so if she gets loose she doesn't get hurt or even a tent, during the daytime.
The other thing is possibly to wait after you open the top of the pouch as the light may bother her sight at first. Do a slight delay before you advance your hand into her pouch, also could crease the pouch in the middle and slide hand inside.

I just received a pouch protective pouch from Jessica in the mail today. She was kind enough to make me one for free and I had a nice chat with her today about how it works. Button seems alot more at ease with me than my boyfriend. And suprisingly she likes my mom more than the boyfriend as well. I think its just because we have handled her more than him. She isnt to the point where I can handle her yet but as soon as she gets to that point Im going to try laying her on my chest like you recommended Art. She is a sweet heart just scared. She has come a long way since we got her with baby steps but she still has a ways to go. Im sure after we intro her and Stitch she will calm down a little bit. She was a bit stressed and confused when I put her new pouch in and took out some toys that she couldnt hide in but I just went in and checked on her and she can see me coming and doesnt freak. She just looks up at me with those beautiful eyes like... "watcha doin!?"
