My baby is missing!!!!!

My baby is missing!!!!! - 11/10/17 07:52 AM

Hey all,

I am freaking out. I don't know if the emergency thread is the best place for this, but I have been crying nonstop and I'm so worried.

Necco got out of the cage somehow, I have NO clue how?? But when I got home from dinner today, I went to say hello and Necco was not in the cage! Licorice is fine, was especially crabby when I popped my head in, but she doesn't even seem like she's noticed Necco is gone!

I am especially worried because the girls are not yet bonded to me, and because my house is very big. It's also old and there are areas that I fear she could have gotten into that could potentially be very dangerous!

Last I saw her for sure was late last night, probably around midnight. I put a bowl of food, a water bottle and a pouch on the outside of the cage. I went around poking at sweatshirts and coats and couch cushions, but to no avail. Necco is a talkative girl, though, so I'm hoping later in the night she will start barking if she's truly lost.

Now I am sitting by the cage listening in anxious fear!

I feel your pain on this. :-(

Turn out all the lights, and move through the house quietly. Sound is your best option for getting an idea of where she is.

Well, I was up all night by the cage listening. Walked around the house every hour or so, also, but nada. I am very worried that she is already dead. I feel like the worst pet parent on the planet. frown

I even took down a ceiling tile and picked my head into the attic area with a flashlight but I didn't hear anything.

Hang in there.

Do you have all the toilet seat down, and any pooling water covered, like an aquarium.

They usually don't wander far from the cage unless an area of you home is familiar to them. At night, keep lights off or very low and listen. It hasn't been 24 hours, your odds are still good in finding her.

Do you have other pets?

Don't give up, if possible turn the heat up a little so if she hiding wont be cold one her. Also start taking a room apart and going though everything.( if you have any poison or rodent traps out put those up). But keep searching until you find her or she lets you know.

I can't stop crying!!!! I have barely slept at all! I am going to try to get some sleep and then start the search over again when I wake up. she is so loud and barks and crabs often so the fact that I haven't heard anything is terrifying to me

I have two gliders and my other girl is Necco's mom, so I'm sure she misses her momma so much!

I put all the toilet seats down, and told my roommates to do the same. I told everyone not to do laundry and asked them to be careful when sitting down on all the couches in case she is hiding in there.

Hi, Charlies. Check ALL laundry hampers/baskets, inside closets - shoes, pockets of sweatshirts, shirts, jackets, etc - garbage cans should be checked well, and then covered. Do not take out the garbage, in case your glider was missed. Check piles of clothing, towels, inside bathrobes. Look for holes in woodwork. Also...you mentioned the couch. Gliders have been known to get underneath and climb INTO the underside of couches and/or chairs. Gently check in these areas, as well. If your glider is vocal, and you think you can elicit a response, you can take a plastic bag (or something else with a scary sound), and crinkle it in and around those places, to see if you hear anything or see movement. Keep all other animals tucked away, particularly the kitty, until you've found your glider.

Personally, dim light is better. Sitting still, you might catch movement that way. Sometimes a raised tail hopping across the room is easier to spot when they're trying to be stealthy.

I know your pain, for a while there my Arthur kept finding a way out of his cage. Patience, breath, she probably hasn't gone far.

You have been given some excellent ideas for finding your baby.

I am going to move this topic to Glider Talk now.

Prayers for finding this little one.

Good news!! After 12 hours of crying my eyes out I found Necco in a box of winter coats in the basement. She's practically inhaling the food she missed from last night. Thanks, all for your advice!!!

dance I am so glad to hear that! I read this earlier, but have been at work, even lunch was busy. I said prayers for you and your little one to be found, but couldn't find time to post anything, and I could only have repeated what you already got from people. But I have been following this for updates.

Do you know how she got out? It's important to figure that out, so you can avoid future escapes.

Terry is so right about how she got out.

Look for any weak spots in the cage where she might have gotten her little head through. The general rule is: If the head fits through, the body will follow agree

If you have any sliding (up/down) doors, make sure they are all secured. Many gliders learn how to get the open shock

Make sure there are no broken bars on the cage that may not appear to be broken at first glance but with a push, she could get out.

Make sure there was no way she could have gotten out through the bottom of the cage around the drop pan.

No, I'm not sure how she got out exactly. My cage does have those sliding bird doors, and I was using the bird feeder inserts (do you know what I'm talking about?) to feed their food. The doors were pretty tough to move, so I figured it would be okay. I had small C-links as locks on them. I have now zip-tied the sliding doors shut and I'm using a glider kitchen instead of the bird feeders.

Slight bummer because I think they enjoyed climbing on the bird feeders to get their dinner, but I think I might get some foraging food play toys to make up for it.

But worth it if it keeps them safe!! heart

You can make them too. I make these out of a thin strip of fleece, and milk or juice bottle caps, and a straw.

The tire is from Walmart in the dog toy section , it's got braided fleece for a hangar.

You can also use candy boxes for foraging like tic-tac-toe and breath savers puck.

A tooth brush cap is fun too.

Terry turned me on to this:

It's a cat toy from Petsmart. It comes with treats, you can give those away to a cat owner.
