first how old is she. if u have a small kritter keeper put a towel under it and under that a heating pad on very low on only half of it. u need to stay up to ck on it that it dont get too warm thats why i say on half and on very low. next look up the baby bml diet. i would use the lid of a baby food jar and let her eat off that if u can get some puppy milk called esbilac i heard thats good too.

Okay, take a deep breath. First off get him warmed up. You can do like glidersangel suggested or you can just put him in your shirt and use your own body heat.

I'm not really experienced with young joey's much, but I'll try to get you some help ASAP.

Do you have any Wambaroo? I think that's what you can use to feed him, but I'm not quite sure which one or how much. Also, look for a sticky at the top of the Breeding a babies forum that tells how to hand feed a joey.

I'll get you some help ASAP!

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 06:50 AM

The main thing right now is to try to get him warmed up. You can do this with a small aquarium (hospital cage) placed on a heating pad, just be sure to wrap the pad in a towel & place another in the aquarium so the joey doesn't get too hot. Then you are going to need to take the place of his momma which means feeding & pottying him. You can find information on syringe feeding joeys here. as far as pottying goes, at his age, you will need to stimulate him to go potty by gently rubbing his cloaca with a damp (not wet) towel or q-tip. Good luck with your little one and keep us updated.

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 07:01 AM

yes thats good make sure its room temp. also in a baby food jar off e r some water room temp. you must feed every 2 hrs. so plan to stay up or set your clock every 2 hrs. as he needs to be fed this much the yogurt is good too. you can also add or get some baby food jars of sweet potaoe chicken by gerber or mix in a little baby food chicken with the yogurt and apple sauce remember every couple hrs. and keep him warm dont put him back in with the mom or they will kill him.

remember water and if u have the yogurt baby fruit juice you can alternate with that. you them both and offer the liquid after he eats each time or before he eats.

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 07:05 AM

Are his eyes open? If so, how long have they been open? This can help you know for sure if he might be a little older. Mom has a very good way of keeping baby hidden, so nobody knows he/she has come out. Good luck with the little one. Your vet should be able to provide you with some replacement milk or you can get the puppy formula at walmart. Definitely keep us posted!

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 07:07 AM

if he is licking that is good. He is wanting food. What diet do you feed? If BML can you mix up BML except don't add the wheat germ or eggs.

Suck some up into the suringe if the suringe isn't working some will lap it up if you put a little in the cup of your hands and hold them...

Momma might not of had enough milk to support both joeys. You may not have to completely take him away. Some moms just need a little extra help/support. After you feed him see if she will take him back in (make sure he is warm because they smell different when they are cold). If she shows him no interest or trys to attack him then you will need to hand raise him. If she takes him back and starts licking him then you will only have to supplment feed him and she will do the rest. I would be waking up every 2 hours though to make sure momma is feeding him and be prepaired to feed him if momma is not. You can tell if he has eaten by looking at his belly. There will be a white patch in his abdomen if he has eaten... if he hasn't it is usually just a grayish black.

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 02:32 PM

[:"green"]I'm glad to hear he made it through the night. In order for him to go potty, you need to stimulate him. Get a q-tip damp with warm water, then gently rub it against his cloaca. If he urinates, it should be clear, so you may not even notice it. If he defecates, you'll definitely notice. Please check out my web-page about Hand Raising A Joey for complete information about how to feed him, how much to feed him, how often to feed him, etc. It also has recipes for making up formula for him. If you have any more questions, please call me: 440-953-0904 (or toll-free: 866-399-4476). I have hand-raised 5 joeys plus supplemented 2 others. You have a long road ahead of you, but since he is already eating for you, he's over the biggest hurdle already! You've done a super job with him so far <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" />. Please, please, please, call me if you need me... I'm available 24/7 for emergencies. If I'm not home, please leave a message & I will get back to you ASAP. The attached picture shows what a full belly should look like.

UMMM, can my other breeders "adopt him"??

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/11/06 11:42 PM

It likely wouldn't be a good idea to try and foster him with another pair..They'd probably try and kill him, especially the male. You did mention he hadn't pottied. It is VERY important that he does, or a blockage or toxins can build up and kill him fairly quickly. At this age, he may not be able to go on his own without that stimulation yet..so it's up to you. Gently rub the cloaca with a warm, damp washcloth or Q-tip until he goes (Q-tips likely won't be as abrasive..less chance of irritation). Keep us updated on him, and I hope he makes it.

Re: HELP HELP HELP!!!! RIGHT NOW - 02/12/06 12:40 AM

hmmm, well, i actually introduced him to the, and they IMMEDIATELY started licking him and grooming. he has been with them for abut an hour and has eaten, and cries every time i take him out to check.

Its as if they just had a new baby, in fact their joeys are now 8 weeks oop and are on their own, so my biggest concern was if momma had milk, but he is full so she apparantly does.

Good luck with the fostering! Be prepared, as it is risky, but so far it sounds like it's going well. Keep us updated!
