Tent time with the Evil One

Tent time with the Evil One - 03/27/05 01:06 AM

I have a new little boy. I just got him on the 21st. He is 11 wks old. I had been visiting him several times a week at the breeders since he was about 6 wks old. It is not like I am a total stranger to him. His environment is new to him though now that he has come to his new home.

He was so sweet up until he was 8 wks old. From 8 to 11 wks he just seemed to get meaner. I really don't know what has come over him.

I just started tent time with him. At first it is like being stuck in a tent with a Grizzly bear. I fear for my body parts. LOL. I just hide my toes and let him attack me. After attacking me he goes and hides for at least the first 2 hours in the tent. My little girl just plays and jumps all over me and around the tent during this time. I have had her for several months now. She is 8 months old. They get along great. She could care less what he is doing during tent time...she just wants to play with me.

After a couple of hours he will come out to play. He still crabs some but he plays and runs and jumps on me. The first night he even carried a piece of watermelon to my hip and ate it on me.

The next night we have to go through the same ritual all over again. Hide, play.

Don't miss understand me, I love him even though at times I feel an exorcism is in order. I know he will cool his little jets eventually.

So...would you leave toys in the tent that he can hide in till he feels comfortable to come out and play or would you take the hiding places away so that he will be forced to deal with me in the tent with him?

LOL, I was thinking the same thing with my Xander up until 2 weeks ago, hahahaha. Now he's a big baby. Was just playing with him and Noel. Noel is a sweet little thing but very shy at first, she never makes the first move, you always have to. Xander since his big change has been really sweet. While she will climb all over me at mach speed, he'll tuck himself into the side of my neck, or hug my shoulder closely and look up at me, chirping and sniffing. I just kept giving him treats and finally he came around. Food seems to win them over pretty quick. Once they realize you are the source of food, they learn to trust you. Then they find out what a blast you are as well as a food source, lol. Keep at him, he'll come around. Xander was the same way, he was a real blood hound. Patience and persistence is key!

I have no complaints with the breeder I got him from. They could not have been any nicer to me or treated their gliders any better. Just like people every glider has a different personality.

See if you can bait him to play with a feather toy. This works wonders with my female who at first wasn't too fond of me
