If they are familiar with their name and are bonded to you, I don't see why they wouldn't come when called. Hailey pokes her head out of the pouch when I call her name, but she just gives me a look as if to say "can I help you?".

As for other tricks, I'm afraid I wonn't be much help, I can't even get mine to take a yoggie drop without nibbling fingers first lol

Hebe yeah text comes when called but. She needs to be awake already and I usually put her on top of the cage and she glides to me when I call her.

Let's see....my gliders know their names (they tend to ignore me if I call out the wrong one, imagine that); they know NOT to leave their room even if I leave the door wide open (just like the cats know NOT to come into their room); if I stick my arm out, they know that I want them to follow it to my fingers & jump off the end of my hand; most of them know what the command "come" means (works better preceded by the SPECIFIC glider's name); switching from cage pouch to bonding pouch with minimal bribes and fuss; if we walk outside the "safe room" that jumping off Mommy is NOT allowed...

All of this I'd classify as "conditioned training"...repeating over and over the lessons you want them to learn. Treats given when they do what you want, being picked up (especially with the outside-the-room trick) and put back to re-learn the lesson if/when necessary...

Many of these things EVERY glider knows...we're still working on a couple things with a couple of them. Patience and persistence will get us through.

Arwen comes when I call her. she also knows what "wait" means and "stand" and "jump"

the "wait" is for when i put her on a high shelf and tell her to wait till its right to jump. this "command" goes with a hand signal. she will wait and wiggle like crazy wanting to jump but she waits till I say "jump" and tap my chest. then she jumps.

the "stand" is to make her get on her hind legs for a treat, but she is not allowed to use her hands. this one took along time to teach her.

she will also come running, even from across the room when I call her name.

ROFL. I understand exactly how you feel! Mine have only gotten the hand signal of "licky treat on finger", as I approach the pouch with my fingers when I first get them into the tent to start tent time.

I thought I was doing great with that! Having them come to me when I call, PRICELESS!

Food works great! I used treats to "train" my glider[s] and it's true..best way to any animal's heart is their stomach, LOL. Every time they did a behavior I wanted they were rewarded, then I would accompany the behavior with a word or gesture and slowly they learned that if I did that word/gesture they would get a treat if they did the accompanying action. smile My favorite "learned behavior" and most useful had to be "potty", haha... every time I got Saccharin out I would hold her above the cage floor and say "potty". She'd wait and go potty before crawling up my arm/down my shirt and it worked awesomely.

I was just curious cause I have never seen it written down. Although I never said that none of them came. You make the clicking sound tap your chest and call Loki and he will mark your face and dive down your shirt and curl up in my bra. Thor, Link and Zelda all know their names but choose to ignore me. Coffee, Crash, Sif and Lily dont cause my husband calls the wrong ones the wrong names hahahaha! Thats what we get for have 2 sets of identical twins right. hahahaha.

I would not say that I have trained my gliders, I think it has more to do with what they associate with certain things, repetition, routine and how well they are bonded. My gliders definitely know their names, and if we stay over in a quest house and there are new things to explore, Gizzy will most likely not explore anything unless I touch it and tell him it's ok to go, sometimes he will try to explore something out of curiosity but as soon as I say "come to mommy quickly!" he knows this means that he could get hurt and runs back to me and in my bra he goes.

One useful thing that I have gotten my gliders to do is to sit on a kleenex when they first wake up and come out of my shirt. It usually works pretty well and I prefer it to getting peed on all the time! I just squish the kleenex under their butts and they pretty much will stay still and go in it. I can tell if they don't have to go anymore because then the either start running or want to chew on the kleenex smile

Also, we've worked on "jump!" to tell them to jump to us. It helps if they also want to jump.

I have a new site where I was able to put up some videos of my gliders coming when I call, and jumping when asked, link in my siggy (my gliders)

I dont have a video of all their "tricks" yet, it is hard videoing them as I have to work the camera (they dont like my hubby to come in the room too)and hold the treats, and with poor lighting and lightning fast gliders it is difficult getting good videos. but hopefully you will enjoy them just the same. notice Arwen and Gizmo respond almost immediately when I say their names, they know a treat is soon to follow that sound. yup, treats are the secret weapon to training. and use something they REALLY like but dont get EXCEPT during training. check out my training tips on my websites too. hope they help
