Take pics again and compare. I'm so glad he's dong better! I can just pic him sticking his thumb in the water bottle to drink! Now tell him to not get his thumb stuck! One injury is enough!

Glad to hear that the little man feels good even if his little tongue is swollen.
Maybe his women will clean him up a bit for you. I hope the swelling goes down soon. Poor little guy.
Prayers and good thoughts still coming your way.

He's doing so well! He's eating (HPW, anyway), drinking, and even grooming himself all the best he can. I really think his tongue is less swollen - here are some pics for comparison (clickable thumbnails): Day 1 Day 2 Day 3

oooohhh, day two looks bad. Day 3 looks MUCH better. What a strange thing to happen. Good thing he has you to care for him. (poor little guy looks so silly, are you sure it isn't just his opinion of things?)

Lol. He does look silly. He's such a good boy and so sweet, though - I don't think he's sticking his tongue out at me...hehe. He's actually able to use his tongue a bit - he's lapping the HPW up and water, too. It's just that the tongue won't go back in his mouth yet - hopefully all the swelling will be gone soon so he can fit it back in there!

Both my vet and the vet who saw him yesterday were in this morning and checked him out. Most of Eugene's tongue is much better. The tip, on the other hand, is dying. The vets believe it'll just die and fall off. They say that's okay. Anyone have other opinions about that?

Eugene's doing pretty well. Poor guy got dragged to the vet and then Petco and then WalMart and then sat at Midas with me for 3.5 hours while we figured out what all needed to be done to my Explorer to make it safe to drive the 2000 miles next week! Got a new muffler & my dad needs to change out my ball joints and do something with the rear differential this weekend or I'll be driving their new Escape to Texas! LOL! Eugene was an absolute angel the whole time. Dr. Baillie said his tongue is looking loads better and he still hopes the tip will just fall off on it's own or heal itself somehow as he doesn't want to amputate unless absolutely necessary. Eugene ate so well last night - he even ate some corn and peas! All but the very tip of his tongue is working great! He's still lonely, but the vet thinks it's best to keep them separated for now unless I am there to supervise playtime, etc. Tomorrow is our last shots and vet check until we see Dr. Walsh next week - so, I'll be asking about oral antibiotics to bring home. They haven't even needed to anesthetize him since Monday because he's been putty for the ladies at the clinic. Dr. Baillie doesn't know if it's just him that Eugene gets all squiggly and ornery (well, as ornery as the sweetheart gets) for or if he just prefers the company of women. Lol. The lady vet who took care of him Tuesday and Wednesday just loved him and said what a pleasure it was working with him.

Thank you guys! You know I will, Jen - he's getting way more than his share of kisses lately. Perhaps that's why everyone else was barking for about 7-8 hours (nearly straight!) last night. I'll get some more pics tonight and post Day 4 & Day 5 pics. I have to go through the photobucket album and at least put dates on all the pictures soon - he's getting so many pics taken this week! Lol! I bought some meal worms at Petco today (my gliders don't really get mealies too often because 6 out of the 10 I have are quite fluffy - some more than others!) But, I think Eugene deserves some mealies and maybe I'll let everyone else have some when I clip their nails soon. Lol.

Typically with necrotic tissue you need to watch to make sure no more of (in this case the tongue) dies. Sometimes the dead part just falls off and the live end heals well. On occasion, if the necrosis spreads, and more live tissue continues to die, then the doc will have to surgically remove the dead tissue and hope the remaining live tissue heals well. If your doc is optimistic about it just falling off, then that's probably what will happen. Just be sure to look closely at the dead tip every day so you'll know if the dead area is getting bigger ~ which I'm sure you're doing and would know what to do if it does. Yay for Mr. Krabs and his super mom

Thank you!! Yeah, he doesn't get too many yogies or mealies usually - none of mine do as the majority of them are too fluffy! Lol. So, this will be a rare treat. But, I think he deserves it.

There is now nothing sticking out of his mouth - but he wouldn't let me see his tongue yet - so I don't know what it looks like. However, he is now back with his girls!
