I am starting this new post for everyone to share their own inventions/twists on their suggie's favorite toys. I'm tired of seeing the same toys available on all the different websites. Let's let out imaginations run wild and come up with some new UNIQUE ideas! I'm hoping everyone's ideas will spark new ideas of my own and vice versa!

Just saw a neat video on [non_supported_site] where a guy took a regular drinking straw and filled it with yogurt or juice and then folded the straw inside of itself end to end to make a triangle. His gliders love to try to take it apart to get the tasty treats inside.

That's a foraging rose, a crocheted shot glass and straw disaster, a sugar-shots play tube, a deer blind, a glow and glide, a snail on a log and a Hobbit Hill
Those are my most original

Well I for one don't want to go after Amanda, because she is so talented and creative! In all honesty though, I don't have pics on my phone of toys I've made. I'll try to remember to log on from my computer tomorrow and share

I just have a lot of time on my hands and I HATE making the same thing twice. Those two things are a combination for fun stuff... and a TON of junk that didn't turn out IN THE TRASH.

It's really not fair for you to post pictures of the things that you make, Amanda. You just come up with super cute things all the time at the drop of a hat and then post pictures and make me want to buy them all Cheater...lol

Oh my! I think I would destroy my sewing machine if I attempted anything resembling the assembly that turtle must have taken! Way to go everyone!!!! These pics are the bomb!

The deer blind is super easy. It's just a little landware cloth rolled up and bound together on the backside with fleece, then fleece is strung through the bottom part, halfway up. Last, you cut a circle of fleece about 3x bigger than the circle the landware makes and cut strips around the edges. With those strips, you tie them to the landware to make a bottom. Cut the strips into leaf shapes. Then there's the flower that I tucked in and the chain to hang. Easy peasy!

The turtle is an awesome pouch, but with my work schedule takes about 2 weeks to make. I am getting ready to make another one but with some girly fleece so I can have it when I put by two pairs together Oh and here is something else I make
it's a jellyfish

WOW GUYS! (or gals rather...) What great postings! This has truly inspired me to get to work! I love them all, from the flowers, lights, records, and dream weavers they are so creative! I'm starting work on a new creation tonight! I will post pics when I'm done. Keep it up!
I have been in a new-toy making frenzy lately I don't have pictures of all of the latest creations, but here are a couple (I'll try to get pix of the others in the next couple of days) Happy Forager Toy
the flower shot glass is pretty simple, but is kind of hard to explain - I will try to get a pattern together and put it on my website with the directions to the apple branch ladder.

After feeling inspired from all these great toy posts I created a 'play-tree' for my sugar glider's cage. I wanted something to keep with her cage theme.

I made the frame out of the pvc mesh hardware cloth. I then covered it in fleece. It stays standing up because I have two zip ties connecting the 'trunk' to the grill at the bottom of the cage. The photo is the tree sitting on my end table in the living room.

I make lots of toys for my crew that are very simple! I stuff fleece scraps inside the large whiffle balls and hang them with plastic chain and I also thread straws or feathers in there too. I have frisbees with holes punched at 3 spots and hang it with plastic chain and then add a fleece blankie. They use it as a landing pad or a jump off point and even sometimes are happy to spin around on it! Then I have the busy bridge which is just landware cloth with fleece strips woven thru it. It hangs with plastic chain and can have all kinds of things attaced to it, like monkeys, bells, straws, feathers, mini mugs, baby keys, etc.

Patricia! AWESOME! I love the instructions on your flower shot glass! I'm so going to try that.
Tracy, I totally know what you mean about "some I hate to make anymore and some I really enjoy". I TOTALLY hate making some of my toys. I'd feel bad if I stopped and some poor glider didn't get one though. LOL

LOL you guys are too funny. And Connie those toys with the bowl those things are awesome and huge! I can see those balls everywhere.
I LOVE the sound of the ballpits at night. Those little wiffle balls dinking off each other and the gliders chirping when they find the hidden mealies!

Each cage has to have two things. A wheel and a ball pit. Absolutely a have to! You would not believe how many times I catch them sleeping in their ball pits!
The big dishes with balls were amazing simple to make! A big bowl from Dollar tree, straws, beads, craftlace and balls!
I like to cut tiny squares of fleece (like 1" x 1") to put into the ballpits to give them something to cuddle with when they do sleep in there. LOL it's like confetti!

Connie, your second pic down with the set of 3 wavy, green bowls - I love it! I saw that set when I was shopping on Saturday and said to Chelsea "I bet someone could make a really cute toy out of these, but I don't know what to do with them." Now I'm wishing I'd bought them!

Amanda, I haven't picked up a crochet hook in years! LOL! Looking at your awesome toys tempts me to get back into the habit. Are the crochet toys safe for the gliders? They won't get stuck in the "holes"? Do you use a specific yarn?

Crocheted toys are made with fleece that's been cut into strips. I don't know how wide the strips are that Amanda uses for her toys. I have to say, all I can do is a basic "daisy chain", and I love the effect it gives to the toys I make. But Amanda took the basic concept and took it to AMAZING heights I have some of her toys - recently she made a squirrel pouch for my gliders that is just incredible!!! They are all definitely glider safe! The fleece is so tightly crocheted that you don't have holes for them to get their feet caught in
These are so awsome! keep them going Im ususally good at making toys n tuff for the fuzzie babies but since we no longer have ferrets I have drawn a compleate blank on what to do for my suggies! My honey just got me a sewing machine yesterday and Im so looking forward to using it !!! Guess since Im sick and at home I can get to working on something new and fun for them!! wahoo! Georgia

Yep yep! It's fleece! I used to use 1/2" strips, but I've graduated to 1" strips because I felt that the 1/2" strips were unsafe sometimes. When the fleece stretches, it can become a little frazzled on the edges, and so, if you cut it thicker, that effect doesn't happen.
I'm in the process of making a forage toy! I'd get it done sooner if my dogs would quit bothering me and the power would stop going on and off. Ugh the snow. We had to dust the snow off are computer didh about 5 times! Wow I love making suggie toys!!!!! It's so much fun!!

Oh, wow, I love that Hobbit Hole and the happy tea cup!
I've been gradually putting together a tiki theme set, and one of the coolest things I got was a little wooden basket (it's solid, like a block of wood with a handle on it) at Michael's. I tied it to his rope (it's a nice Indiana Jones brown kinda color) and made a gondola. XD It looks really cute but all he almost never sits on it.

All these toys look great! I can't wait to post pics of my own. We're waiting for the snow to go away and then we're taking a day trip to Charlottesville to hit Babies R Us, a bunch of Dollar Stores, and a couple of fleece stores. And Olive Garden for the humans.

I got those at Joanns. They had more the last time I was there, in the clearance section for $3. I'd be happy to go back and see if they still have them and pick them up for you!

OMGosh! That little plastic boombox is adorable!!! What do you have on the other toy? Is it ribbon and hair scrunchies? Their nails can get caught in those. But, I bet you can get some fleece and run pieces through the holes and braid them or just let them hang and let them pull them out. The straws are perfect! I love the little doodad you have the stuff on. What is it? WHERE did you get the plastic boombox? It is soooo cute!
Amanda, your cutting page is so helpful, can you tell me where you found the cutter that you use? I have never seen one before and I cut all of my material by hand and it is always un-even strips. Thanks
As time goes by and my loves pass. I will forever be greatfull for the time we had together. I will see you soon my loves.

Some use a dremel drill. I use a pencil shaped soldering iron. Whichever you use, it's best to practice a few times on a plastic lid. Trust me on this. LOL!

I use a straight edge too! That part is important for getting the strips right!

I got mine at Walmart in the hardware section. I had to find it myself. It wasn't with the tools. It was on the wall with miscellaneous stuff. It's around $6-7.

I see Connie asked about some stuff but is that red yarn you are using on that blue cup? Yarn is not a safe choice you should switch it out with Lanyard or plastic chain.

Good catch, Ness! I thought it was fleece. Time to dig out the glasses!
Hi everyone! My first gliders won't even be old enough to come home for a few weeks, and already I have been bitten by the toy making bug. The breeder is going to deliver my gliders since she lives close, and I am going to have her check out my cage and toys for safety and fun. Once they are approved, I hope to post some pics of my babies enjoying their new digs.
Toy making is addictive!
And special thanks to boomtinks for her instructions. What a great jumping off point.
