I guess I was misinformed - glad to hear that the ban is still up in the air -

I'll do whatever I can do have this STOPPED DEAD IN IT'S TRACKS -

This would be taking a lot of peoples lively hoods away from them - all it means is that breeders would have to get licensed and we would have to get our birds registered with a veterinarian asap - also our sugs -

Sorry For the confusion - I was on my Remembering Alex (Bird Forum) and god discombubulated

Just and update on this bill. It did not pass nor is it dead. We need to keep sending letters and faxes to our delegates on this bill.

I got this update from one of the Parrot clubs of which I am a member.

I was sent a link to an article on The Bird Channel . com. It basically stated that pet owners in America put on a great "Grass Roots" effort of writing letters, sending faxes and phone calls. They received almost 50,000 letters delivered to the sub-committee members. That number was added that on top of the thousands upon thousands of phone calls, e-mail and letters directly to subcommittee members.

One of the sub-committee members was quoted as saying that they had not seen a letter writing campagn of that magnatude in almost 30 years and that we should be proud of ourselves.

If you would like to read the article on The Bird Channel the link is http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-news/2009/04/23/hr669-after-the-hearing.aspx

We need to keep writing letters to these committee members. This bill in not dead, they have just tabled it for revisions.

I am pretty sure it didn't pass, although I haven't really confirmed it. However, even the bill writers said it needs to be rewritten and would not pass as is, so that means they WILL come back... Like always.

What we have argued about this law on the hedgehogworld board is that this law is to prevent non-native animals from taking resources needed by native animals to live. With this being the goal of this law here is a major point that need to be pointed out to our congress:

BOTH hedgehogs and Sugar Gliders require a temp of 70 or high 24/7 to live where in the wild could they live in the US? Perhaps the dessert states (which they are already illegal in) but here in the Mid-West there is NO way a hedgehog or sugar glider would be a threat to the native animals. Cause it would NOT survive the fall/winter/spring.

Hedgehogs are illegal here but Suggies are legal. I'd like to keep mine. If people were more responsible, none of this would have come about.

Grrrr...
It ISN'T dead, though we are doing a good job. I just hope people don't think "oh, this law is too silly. It will never pass." and therefore not make their voice heard and LET the wicked thing pass.

You can find out more at places like REXANO http://www.rexano.org/HR669_Wildlife_Invasion_Frame.htmwhere I am a member. You have to stand together, you know?
