Hi, yes, so far so good. Still not sure he's going to keep his leg or not, but his leg still looks good. He's being good and taking his medicine when I give it to him... he doesn't like it, but he takes it... He's a tough, but gentle lil stinker... :-)

Just so everyone knows, if you do have a pouch designed like this one it is a very easy fix. I just tried it on my bonding pouch. You can just stitch along the edge of the window and that eliminates any loose edges that could be chewed on.
Can't wait to see photos of the little guy again!

Ok, here's a pic of the lil baby boy... He was being unusually good tonight while I was soaking his foot, so I decided to snap a close up pic for you all. If you look closely, you can see a small part of the cup where I'm soaking his foot.

[:"green"]Dan, So glad to hear (& see) that he's doing better. He's a handsome little guy . The expression on his face is priceless... "Oh bother, not again..." Keep up the great work! You're so awesome!
Dan you are doing a wonderful job with that little man. He may not like it now, but he will love you for it later. Thanks for doing as much as you have for him.
Sorry, Dan Either I completely overlooked page 4 or it wasn't showing for me. A pic is good, but I was looking more for an update. Is the foot looking any better at all, and does it seem to be healing? Is he still getting out of the collar? Mine or not, I'm really concerned for your little guy, so forgive me for wanting frequent detailed updates. Just want to know how it's going.

No problem. His foot does not look good, but it's not getting worse. His leg is still looking ok. I'm trying to be patient and give him time to heal. If there is no improvement in a week, I'm going to probably bring him to the vet again to have him looked at. The vet said it will take several weeks to see any improvement and a few months to heal completely so I'm trying to be patient. The ecollar is staying on all night now. I think he's accepted it too...
Thanks for everyone's concern, but for now it's just a waiting game to see how he heals...

He's stable. Eating well and doing well. I'm just waiting to see if his foot will completely heal or if it needs to be amputated. It's a waiting game now. Trust me, I wish it would go faster because all of this care is KILLING ME! You can't imagine the amount of work to hold a baby glider still for 15 minues while his foot soaks... and I have to do this 3x a day! The vet said it was going to be a long healing process and he wasn't kidding! I promise to post when there is new info to be posted... Thanks.

Wow, honestly, I dunno if I could do what you are doing. If he does lose his foot after this, Lord knows you tried your best! I couldn't hold a glider down for that long just ONCE a day. Either way it turns out, you get glider dad of the year award! Well, I went to the vet yesterday and he looked at his foot. He said it looks good, but part of it is dried up and dead. He said that this will fall off on it's own and the rest will heal naturally. He said to keep him on the antibiotics, pain killers, and keep soaking his foot to keep any chance of infection out. As long as the foot doesn't get infected, he should retain a good portion of his foot and heal just fine. He said it will be a few more weeks before the dead tissue falls off. So, it looks like a few more weeks of "he double hockey stix" (I can't believe that word is censored) are in store for me. I don't know who's is worse shape right now... the baby glider or my mental health!

Awwww...I can imagine just how tired you are!! Look at it this way, at least when your baby grows up..he won't ask for your car keys ..take drugs..stay out all night ..and ya won't ever have to bail him out of jail! LOL Soooo, once this is over..you still have a loving glider kid and an awesome bond! Keep up the great work "daddy"! You're almost there
My guess is you're in worse shape than he is. It WILL get better ..hang in there! We're rooting and praying for you both. (((HUGS))) for you and an extra treat for the baby!

Dan, you're doing a great job..and thanks for the update! SM gliders are a long, hard road, but the end result usually makes it all pay off. Keep an eye out for blood poisoning..with dead tissue that is a risk, tho hopefully the antibiotics will keep that at bay.
I was also wondering if you'd put your little guys story on the Info Tree, under Owner's Stories. It's a place to put the case histories of the SM's..so they can be learned from to help other gliders in the future. My Riker's story is there, too. Here's the link:
Update: Baby is doing fine. No changes in his foot yet, but something really strange happaned today... Check this out. I walked into the room where I keep the gliders and I hear a weird noise. It turns out that the momma was out of her cage and trying to get in so she could get to the bonding pouch. Now, this cage is 100% escape proof and I didn't leave the door open. I have no idea how she got out. I tried to get her but she ran behind some other cages in the room. So I left the room and left the glider cage door open. I came in about 20 minutes later, and what do I find? All 3 gliders in the pouch! Now, the baby has been in a rubbermaid container that's on a shelf that's outside of the glider cage since he's been injured. It's my guess that momma somehow escaped, freed him from the rubbermaid, and they both made it into the cage when I left the door open. The only other thing that could have happened was it was the baby that escaped and was trying to get into the cage to be with his parents and I mistook him for the mommy. But I checked the pouch and the daddy was the only one in the cage! Unless the mommy was hiding somewhere... which is possible, but unlikely. I looked for her. Is this story tough to follow? I hope not. All I know is that I'm very confused as to what happened here... all I know is somehow the baby got out of his collar, escaped from the rubbermaid container, and got into the cage to sleep with mommy and daddy. I think I'm going to name him "Blaine" after David Blaine the magician and escape artist.
I dare anyone to top this story! :-)

AWWW!!!! He missed his parents!!! And I think Blaine is a fabulous name! I'm glad to hear he is doing well, I've been wondering about him. Hope he continues to improve and get healthy and strong. I know you must be so emotionally drained but you are doing a great job. Please keep us posted.

haha, that's so cute!!! I know what you mean about gliders finding their way out of something that you believe to be 100% escape proof! Ah, we all have a bunch of escape artists in our hands.

Update: No new news really, except that he's still doing ok (healing slowly) and he keeps escaping from his container... I think I put enough weight on the lid now to prevent that from now on... :-)

Hi all. Sorry it's been so long since my last update, but posting has been impossible. My mom passed away last month and I've had my plate overfull with things to be done with family and such. So, I'm finally home all alone and trying to catch up on things.
So, here's the update... Blaine is doing fine. All of the hard work paid off. The bad part of his foot dried up and fell off like an old scab just like my vet said it would. He now has a stub and he's adapting. I was actually able to save his leg... even when the vet said it would be almost impossible to do. I can post pics of his leg if you all are interested. He's still very friendly and sweet. I think I'm keeping him now. He's just too bonded with me to let him go to a new home.
I'm going to be looking for a suitable girlfriend for him so if anyone has a baby girl, please let me know. I'm in the NJ area. I don't want to have one shipped... I prefer buying locally.
Thanks to all for all of your help. You've been wonderful.
I know some had asked me to gather all of this info together and place it in another forum, but I just can't take the time right now with everything going on. I'd appreciate it if someone else could grab that task and help out. Thanks.
I look forward to your comments.

Thank You for posting this great news. I have thought about both of you often and hoped you were doing well.
This just goes to show what love and good care can do . Pictures would be great. Chris also has a little girl glider that came to her injured and the dead part also just fell off leaving a stump. I'll go find her thread for you in a sec.
