Poor baby.

I had to use a different shaped e-collar on Sebastian because of his fat neck. The shot glass shaped type wouldn't stay on him. The one I had to use is more like a satalite dish.

Attached is a pic.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I could have missed the pain

Actually, the longer he wears it the more he gets used to it and he pushes up with his front legs and strains to look around...he is funny looking.

The little camera hog (other glider) is his son who is 4 months old and he had his neuter, same day...no trouble...his name is Binky and he is nosey...mom and two Joeys are in the pouch...you can kinda see her nose in one of the pics...

Well I think he is cute with it on and not in a cruel way. It is because I know it is making him better

Thanks for those pictures. It helps to have a visual if I ever need to use one.

Dancing,

Satellite dish dang.... Shoudn't it be a bit smaller so her could go into the pouch? The coller is so big. Just looks like he could pick up a few station because of the size. Just asking tho because I don't know how the poor glider would be able to do very much with something on his neck of that size... Or is it just the way the picture was taking that makes it look big?

Steve you are right, even the smaller shot glass collar is an issue with the pouch.. the sleep arrangements must be modified while they are in the collar. other things also need to be modified because of the collar, like laying down the cage so they do not fall, (long timers may figure out how to climb and move around), it does take them time to adapt though.

Dancing, I also would like to share a pic of an satalitte collar for a sm , now with the injuries and some of the other maladiys that may require an e-collar the satalitte could act as a diversion of sorts. although with the clocal SM, that are cyclic, the satalitte collar may not work, which is why Dawn devised the shot collar.. attached is a picture of Casper, a 4 year mutilator, in a satalitte collar.. as you can see, he still can get to himself.

I have never experienced SM. How long does it normally last once they begin? Does it go away once they are healed in a certain area? Just wondering and hope I don't have to go through this with my new boys.

Jeff...it's hard to tell duration. It depends on each individual glider, what started it, and how much damage was done. I know that isn't much of an answer, but it's the best we can do...take it on a case by case basis. Riker was in his 3 months.

Why or what did he do or was doing that caused him to be in it for so long. Did that mean once he was out he had to relearn everything all over once more because of the time frame he had it on.

Bourbon, that is precisly WHY Sebastians collar was so big! Sebastian's injury was half way down his tail. Even with as big of a satalite as I put on him, I still had to put his tail in a straw to keep it straight so he couldn't wrap it around and into the collar.

What I made it out of was a plastic cutting mat. They are found in packages of three at walmart (by the cutting boards with the kitchen stuff). I couldn't find any report covers that were sturdy enough.

As for sleeping...he slept in a travel cage on the bottom of the cage in a HUGE pile of fleece blankets. I used a corner hammock for a "roof" and drapped other fleece blankets over the sides. Kinda made him a fleece cave to sleep in. But, most of the time for the three weeks, he was ON me. I held him, I fed him, I cleaned him.
