Hey guys.. Me again.. roflmao

Ok, so I was wondering if they can be with me in the bonding pouch ALL DAY? I would love for this to be a yes, but I wanted to make sure.
Will they let me know if they have to pee? I'll carry extra pouches for sure.
Will they let me know if they're hungry? Thirsty? I've heard that they DO eat sometimes during the day and get a drink. How would I work that with the water? Carry an extra water bottle around??

Sorry guys.. I'm just making sure I'm prepared!!! read

Let me know what you guys do! I'd really like some input on this situation.

Thanks so much! thanks

As a rule, you should allow your gliders to have at least 8 hours of solid undisturbed sleep. I let my babies sleep from 7am until around 3pm and then I get them up and put them in my bra for the rest of the day.
Every once in awhile its ok to carry them around all day, especially if your out and about.
Generally they will start fussing when they need to go potty if they are in a pouch. Mine do.
Gliders usually do not require much in the lines of food during the day, but maybe a drink of something mid afternoon or so will do.

Ok. May I ask why this is? Or we don't really know.

Thanks so much. I just want what's best. And I thought you could carry them with you all day. But good thing I asked.

Can they be with you in the pouch if you aren't going anywhere and they are just sitting in the pouch on your lap at home? That's why I'm wondering what's the difference between being in their cage and out? I'm not saying I'm going to bug them, or ignoring what you are saying, I'm just curious.

I take my girls to class on a regular basis.

I leave anywhere between 8-10am,
And am out for 4-6 hours a day.

I carry treats, A water bottle, And my zip up travel pouch full of my furry friends.

I always offer water off my finger about halfway through my day until both are content. (And sometimes treats)

They hang out and sometimes watch out the mesh window.

I should make a video one of these days,
Call it Crabbing on Campus. tounge

I offer some water,
Sometimes twice if it's a 6 hour day, every 2 or 3 hours.
Just to see if they want some.

Can't hurt to offer, But they never go thirsty.

Ok, that's good to know. So just stick the water bottle in there every so often to see if they are thirsty?
Now do you have to use their same water bottle or can you use any one you want. As in they know it's a water bottle.. roflmao Sorry for all the questions..

I carry a bottle of water with me, Like most people.
Also for my own consumption.
And offer it off my fingers when need be.

Nothing fancy smile

To answer your question about carrying them around all day.
Let's compare ourselves to them when it comes down to getting a good nights sleep.
Can you get a good solid rest traveling in a car, or sleeping around a lot of noise and commotion?
After about 3 or 4 days of restless sleep your body begins to feel less energetic, your immune system starts to run down, and your melatonin levels are thrown off balance.
Research has shown that if human or animal doesn't receive at least 6 hours of 'solid' (deep) sleep, your body can not produce the proper chemicals necessary to maintain it's healthy balance. This applies to our little ones too. Especially so because they are nocturnal therefore the required 'undisturbed' sleep is necessary for them to stay healthy physically, and emotionally.

That makes sense.
I was just thinking if they are on my lap with little or no noise during the day I don't think it will hurt them.

Ok, thanks.. I guess I'll leave them to rest for the 6 hours.. ohwell

Like I mentioned earlier, once in awhile it's ok to keep them on you all day. It's important for people to understand that sleeping in your own bed undisturbed is healthier than sleeping somewhere where your sleep pattern is disturbed this applies to our little ones too.

The more you carry them, the more they will get used to how you move and will handle it better. But you should work up your time with them, rather than going from 2 hours to all day, or something like that. I do carry mine all day some days (not every day). I don't ever offer anything to eat/drink during the day because mine never get up to eat/drink and only get up to go to the bathroom if they are disturbed.

On the days you do carry them for long periods, be sure not to wake them up frequently (if at all). I do know people who would carry their gliders every day and wake them to pet them, kiss them or cuddle them at least every hour (often more). After several months of this, their gliders became very aggressive and started biting really hard and crabbing a lot.

As Linda said, just like us, they need sleep to stay healthy and happy. So carrying them all day some days isn't a big deal, but be sure to give them time to rest and don't carry them on days when you know they will be moved a lot or you will be around a lot of loud noises, etc.

Ok, so I can handle them after 6 hours? Or 8 hours of sleep? In the bonding pouch?

Normally how long would you say they are asleep and up? Do you guys happen to know that?

Depending on how old your gliders are will determine the length of time that they sleep. Joey's will sleep longer than older gliders. Usually from 12-14 hours for older (1 yr+) joeys (under 1year)they will sleep long intervals and take frequent naps during the night.
Every glider is different. You will be able to establish patterns with your little ones once you've become familiar with them. Eating, sleeping, likes, dislikes, attitudes, habits, will all unfold as you go along. One thing that I learned with my two is that once you set a particular routine (they love routines) you will notice that they will be ready and waiting for you on those routine times.

Ok. So would you say I can handle them when? As in after 6 or 8-9 hours of sleep? I'm speaking of in the bonding pouch, still sleeping.

Sorry for all the questions.. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.. hug2

I always have to be different. I carry Spencer, Sugar, Nick and Holly from 9am til tent their wake up/tent time at 1030 or 11pm. I feed them 2 mealies each when they get in the pouch, 1 large, washed grape with the end cut off around 1pm per glider. around 2 or 3pm I offer them water in a waterbottle cap. And thats it!

I let mine sleep in the morning from about 7am untill about 1:30ish. Then when I go pick my daughter up from school I take them with me and they're with me untill about 9:30. I then let them sleep in their cage untill they wake up and eat breakfast. Afterwards, I take them out to play in my glider proofed room untill around 11:30 pm.

I keep my guys on me for about 4 hours a day in the pouch.Right now, I have Boomer in my bra, Hammy and Fuzzy in the pouch, and Sarge and Stewie in a pouch. Ranger is in his wheel. I have had them on me for the day since I have been at home. When I go to the store I normally have one in my bra - Boomer, and in the pouch it varies. Normally, I switch days. Sarge and Stewie one day Hammy and Fuzzy the next.

I keep a glider bag lol with me, and in it, I keep 2 extra bonding pouches, bottled water, gerber applejuice, a mini waterbottle for them (ball bottle) in a ziploc baggie, and wipies. I also have another part in it that I put an icepack and their food in case I am out longer than necessary.

On top of that, at all times, there is a travel cage I got at petco, in my trunk of my car.

I second that,
It's all snow and rain here, and 20 degrees.
I look forward to the sun again.

I haven't read anyone else's posts, but I carry mine with me all day. If we go anywhere, I just take my purse and put an empty water bottle that the girls can drink out of, then a bottle of Aquafina or Dasani that I can offer to the girls later. I take yogies and mealies normally, but always take some fruits or veggies. smile
If I know I'm going to be out for a really long time, then I won't normally take them, but if I'm just sitting at home, I don't see a problem with it. smile

Well I know for a fact Duckie hates it when he is woken up during the day... Every once in a while I will bring him to work. The days I know he wants to come with me is when he is still up and running around his cage around 7am when I wake up for work....

The days he wants to stay home- he is already in his pouch or his cube by 7 am..

Here lately he has been sleeping alot because I used to just take him with me for a few days in a row. Well then I started noticing he doesnt get vary much sleep when he is at work with me because of all the moving around.

When he is ready for go time I know he will let me know... Keep in mind we are not completely bonded yet. but I have been able to notice what pace he likes. He is the type that wants to be left alone during the day and wants all the attention at night lol smile so cute

I take a nap with mine, for like 2 hours.
I know you guys are probably going to say i'm going to roll over and squish them, but I know I won't because I ALWAYS sleep on my back, and during the day if I'm napping I'm only half asleep anyway.

I think it's good because I'm not moving around disturbing them or anything.

I don't really take them out of the house because until recently I couldn't trust behbet to not freak out and run away. And I don't want to just take Shady because then they might miss each other.
