How many of you have what I have heard referred to as pouch protective gliders.

Even my 10 day old baby crabs when i put my hand in the pouch or pocket to get her.
Does every glider nip/crab if you go in their pouch/pocket with your hand to get them?

its completely normal for a 10 day old to crab, when theyre in the pouch and you reach in they feel cornered so they will start nipping and crabbing to make you go away.

mine bite me anyway, but thats only because they werent very well socialized.

thanks :-) Most of my gliders do it. I got them all from other breeders as adults and they aren't too friendly in the first place. I can't wait to keep one of my own babies :-)

It takes time with most gliders to learn to trust and feel secure with their new home.
As long as you continue to work with them (even the older ones) on a regular basis daily, the will learn to relax.

I guess I lucked out. I can reach into my gliders pouch "Gizmo "anytime and don't have to worry about him nip/ bite or crab.
He is my first sugar glider and he is perfect. I've had him for about 1 1/2 months. he will let me hold him for hours and he'll sleep in my hands, also is very gentle when he takes treats. he is just adorable and that is why I am a little hesitant about getting another one, afraid of getting one that doesn't measure up. lol
Thank you Colleen..

I too had a Gizmo! he was my first glider and he always let me put my hand in his pouch but he has since passed :-( and haven't found others that will let me.

Thanks for the info, I will keep working with mine :-)
