Peggy, what tests were run on Lidia so far? Have you gotten the results from those tests? What this poor little one has seems like such a mystery with the strange off/on symptoms etc. Has Tristan an idea on it? Treatment? Thanks for the updates! We're pulling for her full recovery!!!

Im surely not a vet, really just following along with treatments as this seemed like an interesting thing that was going on, parasites compounded with what seemed to be a strange yeast like infection... I at least had not seen anything like it here on the boards or in person. I just hope she's fully recovered soon. I know this has been going on a long time and has probably been alot of stress for such a little girl. Im glad she's in such good hands.

Ok, just got off the phone with Lynsie...Now I can tell the rest of you the latest with Lidia. What a trooper she is...poor ole gal. Lidia is clearing up nicely, She was indeed a sick little girl. You will see yourself in just a minute...She did have one area that just would not heal up, no matter what was done... Tristan did a skin biopsy on this area. The skin around it was thicker than the rest of her skin. He thinks all this could have something to do with a genetic problem and told me today he REALLY wished people would stop breeding for albino/creminos...It could take up to 3 weeks for the results to get back on the skin biopsy but he will call me as soon as it comes in. He also did another pouch culture just to make sure everything is all cleared up. Although she looked 95% better than the first time he seen her, he wants to b sure, everything is definitely gone. Lidia got 3 stitches today where he removed the *sore*...she has not messed with them at all. So all keep your fingers crossed and prayers going out that tonight neither her nor Tokyo decide to mess with them. I have the ecollar ready though....just in case, but something tells me, Im not going to need it. Ok now for the results... I will write it as it is on the paper... Culture & Sensitivities Source Fecal Preliminary #1 12/03/2008 Organism #1 Coliforms Heavy Growth Preliminary #2 12/04/2008 Final Report 12/05/2008 Organism #2 No Salmonella or Shigella Isolated Culture (Anaerobic) Source: Fecal Source: Status: Final Organism #1 No anaerobic bacteria isolated Next report : Culture & Sensitivity Source Pouch Preliminary #1 12/03/2008 Organism #1 Enterobacter Cloacae Heavy Growth Preliminary #2 12/03/2008 Organism #2 Citrobacter Freundii Heavy Growth Organism #3 Klebsiella Pneumoniae (This is the one he said he is most concerned with) Heavy Growth Organism #4 Enterococcus Species Moderate Growth Final Report 12/05/2008 Organism #5 No beta streptococcus isolated

Wow... poor sick little sweetheart!
I'm glad she's being such a trooper, and I'm glad she is under Dr. Tristan's excellent care.
Hang in there, Lynsie!
And, thank you, Peggy.

Wow, that's a lot for a little fuzzie to deal with! Maybe one day I'll actually understand what all those test results mean?? (actually, hopefully not?!).
Keep up the great work Dr. Tristan, Peggy, Lynsie and Lidia!!

Lidia's skin biopsy came back and the results are in.... Along with all the things we already knew, it showed a really long term for an obstruction under her skin...the obstruction is believed to have been....an ingrown hair. The reason for the ulceration of it is one, all the other funk that was going on and two, an infection had already started on the inside. When Tim cut the area out, not knowing at the time what it was, he cleared it up. He thinks this is more than likely the reason for her to leave it alone and it was not painful to her. So that area is healed. However, he will be chatting with Lynsie at the SGR as he does believe Lidias Immune system is jeopardized, or not up to par so to speak. He also strongly believes this is a genetic issue. He has no way to *prove* it but has asked that we keep a close eye on the lines that are coming out and keeping record of every little thing that is discovered ie: cannibalized joeys, rejected joeys, sickly gliders, taking a long time to heal, on the small side, slow at weight gain, early deaths....and as he puts it, just basic common sense stuff... Lidia also started hissing again while defecating. Her stools are normal and really there is no reason *why*, so we are just going to watch and see over the Christmas week what happens. If it continues he may want to run a dye barium on her to make sure she doesnt have a something another intestine....sorry dont remember what he called it, but it is where the intestine gets smaller in a certain area and sometimes it is harder for smaller animals to *push* their feces out...he said she is too small to do a scope on and he just refuses to do an abdominal surgery on her. Once again, he just thinks this is due to her being a cremino. His words, not mine. But anyway, overall the report was GREAT!!! And Lidia has just about ALL of her fur Back!! She LOVES having her head rubbed, right behind her ears and her new love is giant mealies!! We had some celebration ones this evening. YEAH LIDIA!!!
