Ok, so I am visiting New York City on Aug. 3rd through the 10th, I will be looking for hopefully some place to move to. I am wanting to find a nice yet cheaper place. Some place glider legal to cuz NYC isn't. I am looking for a town/city/whatever that is safe and not too bad of a comute like no more that 2 hours. If any one has any suggestions please let me know! Any help would be GREAT!!!!

Shame on you for leaving Texas!!!! LOL...

Check long island...that's actually where I was born and raised. Nice areas out there too.

haha you're making the same move I just made a few months ago smile I live in New Hampton -- basically Middletown -- which is less than an hour from NYC. A LOT of people from this area commute to the city. There are park-and-rides all over the place here where you park you car and ride a bus into the city. And, as a plus, gliders are legal here lol. One word of advice, DO NOT ask a realtor for help finding a rental property. In NY they charge a realtor fee equal to one month's rent, so you end up paying like 3 months rent to move in somewhere. It is a lot more expensive up here than it is in Texas, though. We live in a horrible basement apartment that costs 900 a month. Moving soon, though! Yay!

Yes, welcome to high cost NY!! I'm further NY, 3 hours from NYC, I'm right outside of Albany. We'll be leaving NY, hopefully, by the end of the year.

The high cost of living here plus the tazes are out of this world. We're moving south to TN.

After living here in NY my whole life, its time for a change.

Good luck in finding a new place!

I am in the Hudson Valley area, it's about the same distance as Carebaer (Middletown) to NYC. (I am closer to Newburgh.)
It's not too bad here, I am in the small town of Plattekill. I own a trailer in a trailer park but it's better than renting an apartment for $900 a month. I pay only about $700 for my lot rent & mortgage! and it's MINE, haha, all mine! exclamation
I would definatley say if you want cheaper, go farther away from the city. When you get towards Long Island/ Rockland County area and what not I think it's more expensive.
FYI: Gliders are only illegal in the 5 boroughs of NYC. So anywhere else & your safe. smile

Hey Tyler! Lots of people commute from Jersey to NYC too! Cost of living is still pretty high. But, I'm all the way north in NJ and only an hour out of the city. And just a heads up, it's still trees and lakes and mountains where I am.. not all of NJ is city. FYI: not all of NJ is "dirty Jersey"

If you are looking for cheap stay away from here. The trailer parks out here get $700.000 just for the lot.
People move out of there houses here and rent them out for the summer.
