I am making a cage out of an entire room for my sweeties to play in while I do my crafting and work. Problem is.. The wall dividing a room in half if made from second hand lumber and I'm not sure what's on it. I would like to paint it, but I have no clue what will or will not hurt the gliders in the way of paint smell, and even if they happen to chew on that part of the wood. I know someone mentioned shellac is great for coating the wood, but this needs some paint. I can always consider shellac over paint, but I need to know what paint is going to be ok to use. Thanks for any help you can give me!! Karin MoonDance Sugar Gliders

I believe the main concerns about paint safety has more to do with cage building, not what paint is on the walls of their room. Personally I use a semi gloss on my walls just because it seems to be easier to clean. I have never seen my gliders try to chew on the walls so I think about any would be safe. I would stick with water based paint for the fume factor and because oil based paint is just a pain to work with.

Karin, here's an idea you may consider. I read on here a while back about putting grass wallpaper on walls for them to climb on. I thought that was a really cool idea. If you could wallpaper the wall in the grass paper and then attach toys to the wall, it would then become a great place for them to climb and play! Just a thought! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinkerg.gif" alt="" />

I think there are varnishes and paints that are made for use on things like baby cribs. I don't know that it would be completely non- toxic, but might be as close to it as you could get.
