She came into my life a mere 2 months ago and stole my heart from the moment I first saw her. I didn't want to get her and was furious with Mike for going against my wishes. She was so beautiful, but it was her personality that really shown. Within a week Mikey was forgiven because she was such an angel.

It didn't take me long to learn that she didn't like being carried around in a pouch. She wanted to be in my shirt or curled up in my hand. I also learned very quickly that she thought anything I was eating was much better than what was on her plate. I'd offer her a peach and she'd turn her nose up at it, but put it between my teeth and it became the greatest food ever.

She loved to give kisses. I cherished every kiss I got from her even though she got a little enthusiastic with them and they kind of hurt :-)

By the end of the first month, I'd sit with her curled up sleeping in my hand and just marvel at my sweet white angel.

Over the past 3 weeks, we've been dealing with what was probably a bacterial related illness (I'll post results of necropsy as soon as I have them). After going to the vet almost daily and running a gammit of tests, thought we had the problem licked. She seemed to get better and I thought we were in the clear until yesterday afternoon. I'm pretty sure pneumonia creeped in and I lost her around 5:30 this morning. She died in my hand - I don't know if it's wishful thinking or not, but I think she received some small comfort being where she loved best - curled up in my hand..

She's been on me - either in my shirt or in my hand - almost constantly since I got her. I feel very lost and empty right now not being able to hold her.

I feel guilty - she was bonded to someone else when I got her. Maybe she got sick because she was grieving for them. If that is the case - then I'm so so sorry Nikita, and I'm so sorry to her previous person.

This has been the hardest day of my life - going on without my sweet girl. I belonged to her for only a short time, but I'll always cherish each moment that we spent together.

I love you Nikita....

Laura (Mrs. Mikey)

Your little girl sounded like she was loved very much...and it sounds like she loved you too.
The way you talk about the how you two were inseperable makes it hard to believe she was grieving for anyone anymore....dont be so hard on yourself. Your glider may have been bonded with someone else...but she was bonded to you even more.
I know you miss her...but while her time with you was short...it sounded like it was wonderful...for both of you.
Dont feel empty....think of the way she enriched your life. Think of the love and bond you shared together. Let that fill your heart...and let her warm memories fill your thoughts.
I know my words arent much solace...but i hope that you dont let her passing make you forget about the good times you two spent together...

Strange how God will only let us be touched by an angel for only a very brief moment and then she is quickly taken away. But for the very short time she visited you she taught you so much. I think the greatest gift you received through all this is the love that was shared between you and Nikita. She in her own way taught you the meaning of a truly bonded glider to it's owner as well as the owner to the bonded glider. Without her you might not have ever known. You have been touched ever so lightly by an angel and blessed by God in so many ways.

Mike and Laura,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. But remember your lost is heavens gain. I'm sure Nikita is feeling 100% better and very busy playing with the other gliders that have crossed that rainbow bridge. No matter how long they have been a part of our family, a loss is so hard...it is hard to say goodbye. These little guys have a way of just grabbing your heart and not let go. Our prayers are with you.

Laura,
I have already spoken to you by phone, but wanted to let you know I feel your loss, and am so sorry about this. Nikita was a special little girl and I could tell just by seeing you two together she loved her mama very much. Rob and I fell in love with her at first sight, she was so very sweet and curious, not afraid to come say hello, even though she didnt know us at all . I was so hoping she would pull through, and when I saw your email, my heart just sank. You know we are just a phone call away if you need me for anything at all. You know you did everything you could, just remember she is no longer suffering, but waiting for you across the Rainbow Bridge so she can snuggle up in your hand again and steal vit e caps from you. Take care, and call me if you need me.

Ok
Laura, you are brave to post this because it took a lot of courage. Words cannot express my grievances I feel for you. Losing babies is nothing compared to what you went through. What you have to give up and sacrifice to even take care of a glider that is ill and then turn around and lose it feeling as if you lost the battle. But it was not all a great loss as we all come and go, but to die in the loving hands as a person such as yourself would be a real blessing in life. God watches even the smallest sparrow fall from the nest and cares. I pray that you are comforted during this time of loss and sadness.

Laura: I'm sitting here crying as I read your post. I know the feeling of having that one super special glider that somehow manages to touch you to the very core of your being. But please remember that it was on the wings of your love that Nikita gently crossed over that Rainbow Bridge & she would be the first to tell you that no greater gift could you have given her than that comforting love at the end. Nikita would also tell you not to grieve as she is happy & waiting on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge for the day when you two will meet once again.

Laura and Mike, when I saw your tribute to Nikita on your website and then saw your post this morning, I can't tell you how sorry I was. What a beautiful glider. There's nothing that aches quite like the loss of those eyes staring up at you. I'm so sorry. Thank you for posting and for allowing the necropsy to be done, and for keeping us posted about the results. My prayers are with you!

Dear sweeties Laura and Mikey ,

I am so very sad to hear about the loss of sweet angel Nikita . I just cried and cried when I read your tribute to her, and I know this must be very difficult for both of you. I am so sorry for the pain you must be feeling. I remember seeing both of you with your sweet girl, and it was so obvious that she loved the two of you and that you both loved her very much. I know she was bonded to you guys and she was so happy to be held by you, Mike, or carried around by you, Laura, in your shirt or hands. I believe that Nikita was, and still is, a very special little sweatheart. You were her everything.

Laura, you speak about Nikita being a little angel. That is exactly what I thought of her when I first saw her. She was such a lovely snow white color, so beautiful and pure, and was just a little lovie doll in temperment. Perhaps she was an angel. Sometimes God lets us have a little glimpse of heaven, a brief encounter with something not so tarnished by our world. Nikita certainly will always be an angel in my eyes.

I know that Nikita was happy with the two of you, Mikey and Laura. She just loved being part of your sweet family. I remember when you two held her. She loved it, she adored it, and it was very easy to see that she found contentment in your loving hands. She loved the two of you just as much as you loved her.

Sometimes it is hard to understand why these little lovie ones are taken from us. Perhaps Nikita came to you so that she could have your special love during these final two months. Perhaps she needed the kind of tenderness and love that only the two of you could give her. You were her dream come true. And I know she waits for you. She is in heaven, and she still knows the love you feel for her, and knows about your tears. She will always love you, Mikey and Laura.

The two of you are just the sweetest in your committment to sugies. You have a way of caring that is hard to match, and it is obvious when you speak about your sugie lovies. It was no different with Nikita. That is evident, Laura, by the number of long sleepless nights you have had caring for this sweet little girl. Although it must have been very hard for you, I am glad that Nikita was able to have her final moments in your warm, loving hands. Thank you for caring so much for sweet little angel Nikita

I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss. She is a beautiful little . You will see her again and until then she is up there playing in the trees with all the other little gliders. I just looked at your website, it is so sweet. You will be in my prayers tonight.
