My glider evee had most of the end of her tail "mutilated" right down to the bone and the vet had said it was self mutilation. We made an appointment for it to be amputated. When i first got her the end of her tail had a crook in it as if it was shut in a door. I went to go feel her tail last night and the whole thing had mulitple crooks in it. It was like the bone was zigzaging. Could she do this to herself? none of the hair is missing besides the tip, but the entire tail is broken. I have not once heard her make the self mutilation cry noise either. Does anyone have any experience with this?

It sounds like the poor little girl has gotten it wrapped around in a wheel either the bar in the center or cross the side bars in a wire wheel.

What kind of wheel are you using by chance inside her cage area? If it is too small or a wire one throw it out and replace with an 11 inch Wodent Wheel.

vet care is needed to prevent an infection from stress and or from further chewing. Suggest a pain med once the vet amputates.
