I tried to draw out the plans for a no sew cage cover. If you are wanting a simple fleece cover, this should work. If you are wanting it out of some other type of fabric, I suggest having it sewn to prevent any loose threads that the gliders might get tangled in.
I had to do it in three seperate pics (due to size)
Hope this helps.

I'll try in the near future to get step by step photos. They really are easy to do and take no time. How much fleece you will need will depend on cage size. A cage that is 30" x 18" x 36 inches tall will need 2 1/2 yards of fleece. 1 1/2 for the top/back and 1 yard (cut into half) for each side.

Thank you so much Teresa for posting the instructions <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" />, I can usually make the pouches, cubes, etc. after seeing a sample first. I am just not good at figuring out how to make them on my own <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />. I am going to give it a try next weekend. Can I see a pic of yours after it was all done and on the cage? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanx.gif" alt="" />

Teresa, do you have one that is finished and on a cage?

Not at the moment Paula. Do you need help with one? Or are you just wondering how they look to see if you want to do one? My cages don't have covers but I do have one cage in my bedroom that I should make a cover for. I could probably do up one and then take pics...

Teresa, I'm just about to start one any day now. I need to figure out how much material I need now. Not real good at figuring things like that out. LOL

Lynsie, thanks for the picture sweetie. It really looks nice and it makes me want to make one even more.

I'm making two cage covers so I bought 8 yds of fleece. I'm sure that was too much, but it was on sale for $3.99 per yard and I'll find something to make with left over.

Hi Paula,
I am interested as to the purpose of the cage covers. It is a necessity for my suggies or a fashion statement. Either way, they definitely would add some coziness to their cage.

Merry Christmas!

People use cage covers for several reasons:

to help keep out drafts and to help keep in warmth during colder times

to help keep food off the walls behind/around the cages

to help put a barrier between agressive neighbors

to help keep neighbors from throwing food at each other (and potentially cross contaminating if there is an illness)

and yes...as a "fashion statement" (love that phrase!) to remove some of the harsh look of the cage

Teresa is correct, of course, Julie, on all points but my main concern at this point are my walls and poop on the carpet. I've just about scrubbed the paint off of one wall. LOL

I love this idea and was going to try and create one on my own. The only difference is I plan the sew it for easy washing and putting a layer of plastic between two layers of fleece for the bottom because the cage will be on my dresser in my bed room and don't want to ruin it. I believe it will help if the water bottels start to leak and not soak through the fleece on to the wood. I am purchasing a reptarium.

Thanks,

Okay, I finally started it yesterday and a big thanks to Suz, Teresa, Lynsie and Catherine for directions, advice and pictures.
So far I have it cut out, one side piece tied to the top piece and have just started down the back side. My fingers hurt already. I'm just doing a little at a time but it should be done sometime tomorrow. Then the second one begins.
I'll take pictures of the first one when it's done so you can critique my work. LOL

I have made 2 36in cage covers and 2 twin size blankets and I dreaded doing every one, lol, but in the end it was worth it. I still have at least 2 more cage covers and 1 more blanket to do. Blah!!

I LOVE the blankets! They are SO warm! I made three for X-mas last year and three for this year plus two small ones for the doggie beds.
I also make the matching pillows.

It looks great Paula! I really need to make some, but haven't got up the motivation yet! LOL

Becki have you tried searching on eBay, Hancocks or Joanne Fabrics?

I haven't seen that pattern at Hancock's Becki but I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for it.

Thanks Catherine. I really like them too, but I know they would have looked better if they would have been sewn by someone who knows how.

I just finished my second one this morning. THAT'S IT!!! NO MORE! LOL

Becki, I have looked at almost every fleece ever made and I have never seen one with carousels on it, sorry.

The blankets are best with microfleece. I made one for myself and it's what I sleep with everynight now, I love it!
