Monster is not responding well to the BML. The first couple nights, she licked the bowl clean, now she won't touch it. I'm expecting a new glider soon who is yogurt intolerant, so I have been researching other diets. After too many hours of reading, I've narrowed it down to Suncoast or Darcy's, but I still am a bit confused on a few aspects of Darcy's. I have read all parts of this thread so please do not refer me back to another part of this thrad. Here are my questions:
1: Can you use RepCal w/D3 instead of the crushed calcium pills, if so, how much per can of Ensure?
2: If you use the high calcium Ensure, do you still need the calcium pill (or RepCal D3)and JurrassiCal (or one and not the other)?
3: Can you use just insects for your protein source or do you have to have pinkies or chicks? If you can't just offer bugs, do you have to offer both pinkies and chicks or can it just be pinkies?
I just want to make sure I understand both diets clearly before I choose one. This is my understanding of Darcy's as of right now, someone please tell me if I'm on the right track or correct me if I'm going astray:
1 T Ensure Nectur mix (1 can Ensure/1/4 t Jurrassical)
2 T fruit & veggies sprinkled w/ crushed 250mg calcium pill
1 T mixed insects (crickets/mealworms)
Zookeepers secret fresh and available 24/7
1 pinkie or chick once/week

I'll do my best. I've used Darcy's diet for over two years, and have had great success wtith it.

First of all, it's 3/8 teaspoon of calcium per CAN/BOTTLE of Ensure, not per Tablespoon. That would be WAY too much calcium. You can use a little less if you're using the high calcium version of Ensure, but I would still add almost 3/8 teaspoon PER BOTTLE/CAN.

Second, be sure you don't exceed 1 tablespoon of the mixture per glider each night. They'll eat as much as you put out, and then you'll have little tubby gliders. So make sure you limit the amount they have.

The calcium in the diet and the 3/8 teaspoon PER CAN/BOTTLE is absolutely all they need added to their diet. I would not add more or sprinkle more --especially not every night. WAYYYY too much calcium.

I do not feed pinkies or chicks -- twice a week I feed egg OR cooked chicken. Just my personal choice at this time, though I have fed frozen pinkies in the past. I would have no qualms feeding no extra protein at all.

OK, how does this sound:

Mix: 1 can high calcium Ensure with 3/8 tsp RepCal Calcium w/ D3

Nightly feed per glider:

1T Ensure mix
1T Fruit
1T veggies
1T mixed crickets/mealies
Fresh Zookeepers Secret in cage 24/7

That sounds similar to the plan.

Thanks! That's all I needed! I think this is what I'll try. I'll finish the BML I have left first. The only thing I didn't like about the Suncoast diet was that they didn't have any sort of measurement for the vitamin supps. It just said "sprinkle". I like measurements.
