I have several critter nation cages in the room with my gliders, I have notice a few corners are starting to rust.

right now the plan is to take the cage parts rusted outside, clean off the rust and repaint the bad areas with 3 or 4 coats of rustolium APPLIANCE EPOXY paint.
this is the paint on refrigerator and washer and dryers. a strong paint. then let it cure and dry for 3 or 4 days. I have extra cage parts so I
could let it dry longer.

Is this going to be glider safe painting when I'm done?

I am so very sorry your post has not been answered before now. If this ever happens again, please notify me.

The Rust-Oleum company suggests letting the paint dry for 10-14 days to be sure it is pet safe. And they suggest the "stops rust" version.

Wow! This didn't pop up on my feed!!! So sorry! It does take awhile for appliance paint to cure, but it lasts a lot longer than regular spray paint... It's definitely worth the wait for a lasting finish.

I have a cage I need to do to. We've been told to use vinegar to clean and sterilize, and I think it caused the rust I have. My newer cage has held up really well with just Dawn dish soap and sunshine. I do get the power washer out twice a year.

thanks for the answers, I have lots of extra cage parts, plus they have a whole room to roam in, so a long cure time is fine, I just want it to be safe and last for a few years if possible. and
scarface usually stays in the cage 90% of the time, she won't come out unless I haven't given her a treat and she needs to jump on my shoulder to get one, then she is right back in the OPEN
cage for her. I do a power wash in the summer and last year saw a few spots in the corner the paint is missing, so this year power wash AND paint.

thanks for the reply. for $269 dollars would like the cages to last as long as possible.

I bought a bigger cage (Congo) hoping someday I would be putting my trio back together. Well, it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

As I was power washing their old Brisbane style cage, I noticed several rust spots. Most of them were out of their reach, down where the drop tray sits.

There is rust where the main doors close and a couple of spots on the bottom grate. For now, the cage sits empty, and I'm contemplating painting those spots or just selling the cage as is. I don't plan on having any more than 3 gliders.

I bought a used PP starter cage for my problem child Dot temporarily. I took the shelf out put a wheel in and she loves this cage... So I really don't need the Brisbane anymore.

But I did consider attaching it to the Congo cage via tunnel for Stewie. He is my super hyper boy and would have a blast exploring more... So as I type, I'll be fixing/painting the Brisbane hopefully sometime this summer...

I've never used appliance paint, so if you come across any good tips, it would be appreciated!!!

I painted the cage and had to air it out for about 2 weeks. In a meanwhile I borrowed another cage from my very good friend plus my house in Larnaca here is really close to him. Now my pets are in their new home and they look happy.
