Hello- I got a male and female bonded pair; I was told the male was 7 months old and the female 3-4 months old. Lo and behold, within a couple of weeks, Miss Chievious has a “dancing peanut” moving around- turns out she isn’t 3-4 months old, she is just petite with short woman complex. Of course, neither of them were socialized and very skittish. Shortly after I noticed the dancing peanut, baby daddy, Smoky, started being very aggressive with Miss Chievious to the point that I had to separate him. He is doing very well in with my other two gliders as far as interacting with them and I keep both cages by each other. I need advisement as to how I should continue my attempts to bond with momma because she is already stressed from moving and with her being pregnant, I don’t want to further her stress. I’ve been working with her via a bonding pouch and she does pretty well but it’s a real trick to get her into the pouch. Thank you in advance for your replies.

So baby daddy... What was he doing with mom?

Is he neutered?

When they were together did you use a bonding pouch with both of them together?

Momma and daddy together help raise their joeys. Momma will have a tight time alone.

Hello Dawn-
Smoky aka baby daddy, was literally attacking Miss Chievious to where she would ball up on the bottom of the cage. Unfortunately, I barely had them two weeks before he started being nasty to her and when I noticed the dancing peanut so I hadn’t started working with the bonding pouch at that point as they were settling in from the move to my home. No, he’s not neutered yet but I have money in my Suggie Bank to get him fixed- I wanted to find out about this “family” situation before I made his appointment because I don’t know if or how altering him now could affect his parenting etc. if I am able to reunite them when Joey is oop. So I guess there are several issues I need advisement on.

Since they are separated, I'd go ahead and neuter him. He may be able to go back in with her pretty quick depending on the type of neuter he gets (Lazer no shaving is best).

Two things you need to think about...

1st: Because momma is in a new environment, and could be stressed and young, she may dispatch Joey.

2nd: she may be holding fertilized eggs in stasis (can hold at least 3-6 months or more.)

Don't panic... We got you... I'm going to ask for more experienced help for advice.

You have a lot going on here... And I have more questions...

You have a second cage of gliders. That's where daddy is. How many males/ females? And if you have males, are they neutered?

What diet are your gliders on?

Smoky, baby daddy, is in with Smudge (neutered M 5+yrs old) and Alice (F 3yrs old) bonded pair. As you can see, there is another reason I want to get Smoky fixed ASAP if doing so won’t disrupt his parenting, depending on, of course, if he will behave his furry butt if we ( as per glider central advisement) decide to put him back in with momma. He will be neutered for sure, it’s just a matter of sooner or later.
I feed my suggies The Pet Glider diet with calcium supplement and 2-3 times per week I will top off the frozen cubes with nectar or raw honey for a treat. And as we know, nothing bribes a glider better than meal worms - it’s what works for me when it’s time to go back into their cages. Also, plain Cheerios or baby biscuits readily available.
Smoky has done very well moving in with Smudge and Alice; there’s not been any dominating behavior or squabbles, and although they have two feeding bowls available, they all three gather around one bowl when I first put in their cubes, then they each eat randomly throughout the night going back and forth between both bowls. Now, when Smoky was in with momma, he had to have his own bowl,, but he still ended up being nasty to Miss Chievious.
Sorry to ramble, I’m just trying to provide as much pertinent information as possible so we can come up with the best game plan. I really appreciate you and all of your help.

So Alice is still able to breed at her age. Smokey is old enough to mate her. I would recommend taking Smokey out of that cage till he is neutered.

If you don't have a 3rd cage, i would try to put him back with Miss C. But first intro's will have to be made. Miss C's cage will have to be cleaned very well. This is a good read on that and why:

I would make sure you have 2 dishes of food in different areas of the cage.

The TPG diet is very popular. I would make sure Miss C gets an extra helping especially once Joey is OOP.(out of pouch)
