in my happy place
Hi all, it's been a very long time. I considered H&H for this, but as it is more a general discussion, thought maybe i here would be better...sorry if I am out of practice and cause staff more work.

Ok, so I tried searching threads for the past few years, but didn't see any discussion about current expected glider life span. I know it is technically 12-15 years, and certainly there are gliders that have made that. I had two boys that died at 12 1/2. My question, though, is for those of you that have had gliders long enough to lose them from natural causes (and I am very sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is) what have you seen with regard to your own gliders.

It used to be (the last time I remember seeing a question like this) that 6-8 was fairly common with some 10+. I myself have had two girls that lived to be 10 1/2, one living with mammary cancer for 2 years and a girl that died at 11 1/2 that lived with adrenal cancer for over 6 years and mammary cancer for about 2.

Cats can live to be 20+, that doesn't mean most of them make it that long, which is why people generally say 12-15. Thanks for any input. Again, it's good to see familiar names around and a lot of new as well! :D

If we never loved, then maybe we would never feel pain. Love anyway. It's worth it.

wave OMGoodness, it is sooooo good to see you back on the board my friend AND posting. Just makes my day for sure. This is a wonderful topic which could go here or Health & Hygiene, but for now I am going to leave it here.

I need to pull up my records on another laptop, however, my gliders lived into their teens in family units all passing in their sleep except one, Rosie. I did have a necropsy done on her but no anomalies were found.

I have a rescue in the sanctuary that is 10.

Pebbles crossed the bridge a couple years ago and she wash also in her teens, she was a rescue also.

My first glider with an actual oop date passed over the winter she was 8.

I remember you! :hdance: good to see you back!

I don't have much to ad, but sadly only the loss of my Lulu (RIP Lulu) past October 13. I did not do a necropsy, she was approximately 6-7 yrs old, I never had her OOP date.

Skadoosh is doing well, and being only about two months younger than Lulu. Ollie is also doing well, he is approximately two yrs older than the girls, so probably around 8-9yrs old. I give ranges because of not knowing their OOP date, they're most likely somewhere in between the given range.
