How many times do we see wounds on the back of our females necks? Right away we are out to blame the male and call it a mating wound. Sometimes we even call it a dominance wound.

I am here to tell you today that I have PROOF it is NOT always the above. Sometimes these wounds are indeed from our little cute bundle of fur JOEYS!!

When a joey is on moms back they can tend to grab on just a bit too hard, breaking the skin and causing a wound. I noticed Angel had a wound on her head area and I thought (just like we always have) Tambuski bred her again and she didnt want to.

But today, as I was talking pics of my senior gliders, I caught the joey red handed (or should I say red necked? lol) causing a wound on Angel as he was trying to stay hanging on as she was out and about.

Check out the pics attached. Click to enlarge.

Very educational information! Thank you for posting this. I think it's very important for people to realize the various ways an injury can occur. This is now the second wound I'm aware of a joey causing (or making much worse).

Thanks for sharing the picture. I've found similar wounds on the joey's head. I noticed the father was pulling at the joey. I moticed when the male joey is weanef this occurs. Is the father showing the male joey he is the dominant one or is the father telling the baby it's time for him to go?
