Gizmo is getting more alert and active each day.
He is learning to eat by himself with the e collar
on. Just checked him, and he did really well last
night. Ate quiet a bit of his chicken and vegs.
Also about half of his BML. We still hand feed
him the BML though, just to be sure he is getting
a good amount of vits. and cal. He has four more
days to go on the Baytril. Takes it like a little
man. He is healing very well where his tail was
amputated. However, it is going to leave a large
area that will not grow hair, due to the amount of
rotting skin that had to be removed.
Last couple of days, he has started sleeping on
his back a lot. At first, he would try to hide
his face in a corner and sleep facing away from
us. Now he just sprawls out on his back in a
totally relaxed manner. Sure is a good feeling
to know you have gained his trust. Last night
when we had him out for play time, he was walking
more normal with his back legs under him more
instead of being spread out. Hope this a sign
the soreness is going away. I took him around to
some of the cages and introduced him to some of
the other gliders. Think it was the first time
he had seen one since he was a baby. He got all
excited. We are trying to decide who to pair him
up with as a cage mate. Not interested in breed-
ing, just want him to have a buddy. When we de-
cide, we will place them next to each other for a
few days. Taking it slow with him, do not want
anything to happen to him. The way he is acting,
I think he will be fine without the e collar. Just
want to be sure he is totally healed before re-
moving it. Will take him back to the
vet in about
another week, just for a follow-up.
He sure is a sweetie. Reminds you of a little
frog, hopping around without a tail.
