Thank you guys. Jackie WAS very special. Here is what I posted on my wall on FB: Sometimes in life there comes along an uncommon animal who forges a unique bond with a human and changes that human’s life forever. For me, that animal was Jackie Chan. He came into my life at a dark time, and though he had sustained a spinal injury and was in critical need of 24 hour care, it was ME who was saved over and over again. Over the last 7 years or so, Jackie Chan and I have been through it all, and no matter what life brought us, Jackie has always been an inspiration and a light. He was always bright eyed and proved over and over again that he could happily achieve more than I ever thought a paralyzed sugar glider could. He has never gotten functional use of those back legs, but he never let that stop him either. Jackie Chan inspired me to focus on mainly sugar gliders in my rescue. He was the inspiration for the founding of the SUGAR Group, for the Red Pouch Society, for a book I have been writing (and will maybe some day finish) and for several interviews in magazines and television. He brought a few amazing vets into my life, some of whom I am happy to call my FRIEND now. Jackie brought countless friends into my life, some of whom have cemented their spot in my life and some who were there for a time when we needed them and are now helping others in crisis. Jackie Chan learned how to call specifically for treats and how to show me that he prefers the color red. He was able to communicate distress and joy. He has traveled with me to many glider gatherings and on many trips to Tulsa. He conquered countless infections related to his paralysis, other illnesses that randomly occurred, taught us all about SM in spinal injury and loved his human “mommy” very strongly and uniquely. Most importantly for me, over the years, God has used Jackie Chan to teach me many lessons about Himself and His ways, proving that the God of the universe still speaks through animals. And, last week, Jackie Chan got his legs back. On January 7, 2014, my precious Jackie Chan passed away. There are no words to express the heartache I still feel every moment of each day. I miss his funny chirpy bark, his little bald head, the unique sound made when he runs in his wheel, his little stinky face hugs, the funny way he would mark things, the little dribbling of urine all the time, his one-armed hang, his fighter spirit, his big ears and….everything. I miss everything about every moment with him. I have always understood that each day with him since his injury is a gift, and I was nothing but blessed to be able to spend those days with him. Jackie Chan was a very special glider. Waiting at the bridge for Jackie Chan were Sassy, who truly was the love of his life , and Melee, who loved Jackie Chan from the first moment she met him until she took her last breath in May of 2010. Jackie Chan left behind his loving and devoted cage mate, Daiquiri. She has her own special needs and loved every thing about Jackie Chan. Also left behind are many friends and Mom, whose heart hurts from the loss of him with every single beat. A necropsy and histopathology were performed, as there is no better way to honor Jackie than to ensure that even in his death he could continue to give and inspire. Jackie’s body showed a lot of wear and tear from the many years of dealing with complications and changes due to his spinal injury- especially in the bladder and kidneys. Those changes jus took their toll on his body. He did not suffer as some do as they are passing. He simply fell asleep and later took his last breath. After many years of wanting to live and fight, He had let me know that morning that he was tired and ready to go, so I had him with me. 7 years is not enough time. Life has not taught me yet how to stop being sad about this one. Jackie would tell me to fill my home with others that need help, to keep learning and researching , to finish what he inspired me/us to start, and to never forget our time together. So, I will do just that.

Thank you for posting, Val.
When we lose one of these precious little ones, they take a piece of our heart with them, but what they gave us in return is ever so priceless.

Thank you for sharing the story of Jackie Chan brought a smile and tear the first time I read it and still does. He was a blessing to you Val and the community as a whole because you shared his story. I'm truly sorry for your loss, the world is a little less bright without him.

Val, I am so sorry for your loss.
Your eulogy for Jackie brought me to a sobbing mess of both joy and heartache. What a beautiful tribute for a beautiful soul. God bless you for all you do.
