Please help! There aren't any 24 hour vets here good with suggies so I'm reaching out to you all.

I have a 20 month old female. A few days ago, she bit her tongue hard then started twitching and stretching her whole body out on my hand on her back, arms and legs out, back arched, not responding to me.

I was rushing her to the vet when she suddenly snapped out of it and started acting normal again. We knew her tongue was injured but she was still licking honey and eating/drinking a bit. We watched her for a couple days. Last night I noticed she was just kinda laying on her wheel and that wasn't normal but every time I went over to her she'd start running again. Today she apparently came out of her pouch around noon and just laid on her wheel again so my fiancee took her out and took her with her in her pouch through the day. She was very lethargic and had no energy. At around 7:30 she got home and we put her in her pouch in the cage. We wanted to let her rest and went out. We came back a couple hours later and she was sitting in the bottom of her cage with some yellow goo on her that I now know was vomit. I tried to hand feed her a bit of BML/honey/liquid vitamin c mix and she took a bit, lapped water from the faucet stream and settled in with me. She then vomited again. After vomiting she attempted to crab at me and it was very very weak.

She's right now laying in my fiancee's hand not really moving or responding though she's breathing. I know now I should have taken her to the vet much sooner, but that's the past. Is there no hope? Please help me!

She's dead. We are heartbroken. She stopped moving and started taking a single twitch of a breath every few seconds. Then stopped. We tried to breathe a bit for her... I know it's stupid but we tried. RIP Goober.

I am so very sorry. The behavior you described at the beginning of the post sounds like it was a seizure. There can be a number of reasons that seizure activity occurs in gliders and sometimes it starts them down a path that they cannot easily (if at all) recover from.

I'm sorry that you had to watch her death, but please take comfort in knowing that she was with you and felt loved and safe through her last moments. hug2

You may be able to find some answers as to what happened through a necropsy, but I know this is a very personal decision and not one everyone is comfortable with. If you should decide to have her necropsied, you should put her in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until you can get her to your vet.

Again, I am so very sorry for your loss and I am so sorry that you did not receive a response this evening. I really don't think there was anything anyone here could have offered to help. You were doing what I would have suggested (keeping her on you to keep her body temp up and offering her fluids).

I am going to move this to Rainbow Memorials now. hug2

If we never loved, then maybe we would never feel pain. Love anyway. It's worth it.

Hello all, I'm Brad, Goober's human.

Sorry I didn't make an account last night but there really was no time. Between when I posted the first message and she passed on, there wouldn't have been time to get her to any 24 hour vet, let alone one that could care for a Glider, so there's no advice any of you could have given that would have helped. I know now I should have just brought her in when I knew there was something off. I feel personally responsible for her death.

We will not be going through the necropsy. At least we know we were there for her at the end. I don't know what I'd do if we found her dead in her cage when we got back from being out. I'm so glad she held on long enough for us to be with her in her final moments.

Thank you all for your support. My fiancee and I have to discuss whether we will be inviting a new friend into our home.
