So when swapping gliders cages in preparation for future introductions, is a curled up tail and marking via cloaca as well as rubbing her chest area all over the cage fairly typical?

Yes, they will mark the new cage. Not sure about biting the bars.

She's biting at the bars while rubbing her booty back and forth. It's strange. I don't like the PVC coated cages which is what our pre-existing gliders are now in.. I'd rather them all in our cage but don't wanna skip intro steps... But she IS biting at the pvc.

That may be because its a new thing and she's trying to figure out what it is. Hopefully she'll stop soon.

It's only for tonight anyways - even if she bites at it one night should be ok, no? I know its not crucial for her but.I really want the new one to spend the night in their cage and get her stink all over it lol.

Tent introductions, although a week early (but we did get fecals etc) went very well so far. Had play time with all 4 last night and tonight!

She seems to be calming down. Marked up every inch, bite to eat, quick run in the wheel, now nap time lol.

Wish us all luck, so far so good.

Will post a picture of Trixie and new little Leela side by side in a few, the size difference is ridiculous!

Ya... The little one that has been alone I think got a little too excited and groomy and Trix yelled at her but was all good after that. I know some squabbles are to be expected.

Tomorrow night will probably be the first night all in one cage so we can stay up late to babysit. work too early tomorrow to do it tonight.

Very exciting though!

Biting the bars of the cage is normal for some gliders. Like my Pip, for example. Every time he gets excited and starts scenting, he bites the bars and starts dancing. shakehead

Looks GREAT, Jason! So happy to hear that everyone is doing well and getting along! Yayyy!!! The overmarking stuff will stop, this is pretty typical at the beginning when there's a new one tossed into the mix.

Anxious to hear the outcome of leaving them in the cage, but my guess is that everything is going to be a-ok! clap

Everyone seemed to do well! Tonight will most likely be the first night they are all together in the main cage.

I read on a site that you should scrub everything down for neutral smell(s) first... true/false? Isn't that kind of the point of the cage swapping?

PS: How cute are those pics?? Lol! Trixie is like gargantuan next to Leela. Since Leela is 2 I'm assuming she won't grow anymore... though before she wasn't really on any kind of special diet. Just protein source, fruit, veggies. She's almost mousey lol, adorable though.

I don't think you need to scrub the cage down for a neuter territory. Since you've been doing the swap thing, it should have both of their scents on it, which is what you want. If you put them into a neutral cage, they are both likely to start overmarking. No need to make them go through all that work! lol

Leela is just a petite glider, she's adorable! I have one like that. smile

I agree with Shelly - and you should put their things together in the cage, things from both cages - this will make everyone more comfortable.

Good luck tonight, Jason! I know they'll do great!

I'm gonna move this to bonding & Relations now so that you can continue to give us updates on their intros. smile

Hey so ... I'm sure there is an article in my favorites around here somewhere but we are right around wake up time... what is the best way for first night in new cage? Start with tent time and move them all in while they are awake, or let them all wake up in the same cage together?

Right now I have toys / fleece from both cages and a whole load of food bowls just to be safe... and Leela in her pouch alone, and the other 3 in their own pouch still... all in the main cage. My thought was to let them wake up on their own in there. I'll look for the articles but since time is of the essence thought I'd ask here too ;P

Once I've hand them in the same pouch together, I've just put them in the same cage. Normally they are awake.

ROFL - So I let them all have some treats in the tent, they all ran back and forth between eachothers pouches (except for Ally, who couldn't care less).

Now they are in the cage all running around! Trixie, who has made herself clearly the dominant one of the trio, and now colony - has visited all 3 wheels and run in them in the past roughly 2 minutes.... Stopped by each food dish, and is marking up a storm lol. She doesn't seem too bothered by Leela though, just claiming what's hers I guess!

So far so good!

So maybe a dumb question - and I know fights can spring up any time even in established colonies... but after how much time should I be at ease that everyone has accepted one another properly?

Everyone played nice and are all sleeping in the same pouch together this morning! We had ordered one of the larger pouches awhile back which they are all cuddled up in, and I believe we have another large pouch in production!

So glad that everything went smoothly! They're all so cute in there together. Here's the pic, generally Ally buries herself underneath everyone else so she's not really visible lol.
