I've always been curious. I've seen people mention that colors like mosaics and leucistic only started emerging in the US recently (as in the past couple decades). It just seems crazy that when most gliders are grey in their natural habitats, that colors only really came out once gliders were domesticated.

It just seems interesting to me how genetics work. It was always my favorite part in biology when we made test babies based on our own genetics grin

I've heard different things though, that leus started coming out being inbred and mosaics followed after leus. But how did the first colors emerge, and is that why so many breeders are worried about inbreeding leu lines?

It's my understanding that some color *did* pop up in the wild glider population (Mother White comes to mind). The thing is, without carefully breeding for it in a controlled (read: captive) environment, traits like albinism are likely to disappear as quickly as they popped up.

After all, a white glider would be a sitting duck for a predator. I'd be surprised if she even made it to breeding age in the wild!

Awesome Krys thanks for that post! It's weird to think that colors were bred from only a couple gliders...now there's so many blush
