I have recently read somewhere that spinach and brussel sprouts should be fed in extreme moderation. The website that I saw this on recommended feeding them no more than a few times a year. The reason provided for this was that there is too much vitamin K in both veggies.
So - what's the deal? Is there too much vitamin K in spinach and brussel sprouts for each to be fed more than a few times a year? I, personally, feed spinach fairly often (as do many others), so I'd really like some information on this.
Does anyone have information to validate, or contradict, this information?

Dunno about anyone else, but I couldn't get any of the links to work. Someone check and make sure it's just me, lol.

Here's something I found: http://www.brianmac.co.uk/vitamins.htmIf you consider that it's fat-soluble, technically, you could die of Vitamin K poisoning. Or Vitamin A, D and E. But it would take quite a bit.

Most of what I have read, and learned in my (human) nutrition course tells me that it is really tough to reach a toxic level for any vitamin when it comes from food sources. The problem generally tends to be when one uses vitamin supplements. From what I have read thus far, I see absolutely no reason why one would need to limit the serving of spinach and brussel sprouts to just a few times a year. Then again, we have no idea of what the recommended daily amounts of Vitamin K is for sugar gliders, so I guess no one will be able to say one way or another.

WinterSong is correct - it is very unlikely that foods consumed will cause an overdose of any vitamin unless combined with supplements. As for the hazards of Vitamin K - I would like to see some specific references to this with respect to gliders. Vitamin K is essential to normal blood clotting in the event of injury. A diet low in Vit K might contribute to prolonged bleeding in the event of an injury or bruise. That said, there are a few human medical conditions that require monitoring of vitamin K intake (folks with bleeding disorders, those on blood thinners etc.) I have never heard of a glider having a clotting disorder or being at risk of blood clots forming due to inactivity. I wish folks making such statements as limiting a food to once or twice a year (I doubt ingested Vitamin K lasts 6 months or longer in the body) would give the information source.

If I am coming to the right conclusion I saw this also, but it is stated to limit it with a SPECIFIC diet, not all diets. To get a proper analysis why don't you contact the CREATOR of the diet, unless you aren't feeding that diet at all...it'd still be nice to know for everyone else who is feeding that diet though. It is going to be hard though to even know for certain when it comes to glider's as we are all still learning.

Deleting my other post -- I had gotten confused with another bit of information from that same site, in regards to HPW.

That said, on this specific issue, I did send an email to Priscilla, however I did not hear back from her.
