I also use the Scentsy warmers in a corner opposite of the glider cage. It does not seem to adversely affect the gliders in any way.

On a side note, if there is anyone on here that is a Scentsy rep, let me know. I'd be happy to start ordering from you. I have no connection to my local rep.

I used to use incense here in my study (where the gliders will be, later) and I know because my husband has to open the door and ask me if I'm burning incense, it'd be way, way too strong for them. Plus, that's actual smoke. I absolutely won't take the risk in here, and I'd even venture a guess to say it wouldn't be safe elsewhere in the house unless it was far away.

I had switched to using candle warmers in here because the candles last longer, but I was planning on taking those out, too -- not only am I concerned about little feet touching a hot plate, but the idea of one of my suggies falling into HOT WAX is unbearable. There's no way to use the warmer and keep the lid on... so the warmer will have to go into another room. I will have to rely on eucalpytus branches and other natural, good-smelling things to give the room any kind of pleasing fragrance. smile

Great thread.

I burn candles in the same room as my gliders cages (never when they are out) and have seen no health or irritation due to it.

Buring candles are bad for humans to breath in, so I am sure it is bad for suggies as well.

I mysef use the Scentsy pots and have no isses with my health or my children.

When I burned candles we all would have a hard time breathing, so I stoped.

I now stick with the pots! wink

Once I first started using Scentsty pots I fell in love! Now that I think back it was harder to breathe once you go in the room with the candle. I also like how it doesn't get too hot so that if my daugther were to somehow get ahold of one she won't get badly burned. Yes, this means I stuck my fingers in the wax lol! My pots are on counters or kept up high just to keep them away from my dogs and my daughter. I just need to get some new scents smile

I LOVE my Scentsy!!! The flavors are awesome!

As far as burning anything, I only burn my Scentsy on days that I do room/cage clean. I make sure though, that I take the gliders out of the room because of both the Scentsy and because of the fumes from the cleaning products. I then air my room out by opening the window (yes I even crack it in the winter). AFter a few hours of letting every ventilate, I close the window, put on the space heater if it's winter and now freezing in my room (I waste more electricity, I swear...), and then after the room is nice and warm, I put them back in their cage when it's time to make their dinner....

Scentsy wax doesn't actually burn. It only heats enough to release the scent. That's why they don't put off any residue, wax, etc.

I use PartyLite candles and warmers, it is similar to Scentsy and it is safe. I am a consultant for PartyLite and swear by their candles. Parafin wax and will not burn kids, cats, animals.

So can I burn the Scentsy without worrying about the fumes/scent it releases? I'd love to able to use my Scentsy more, but I was always worried....

I love candles but I mainly us PartyLite Candles. They don't seem to bother any of us (humans or animals).

My mom is really into air-fresheners and stuff but they've never been directly around it. The closest would be them playing in the same room as a candle is burning in. We also have birds who have never had a serious reaction to the smell.

Probably a good idea to just use with care... Like when you give them treats, too much might hurt them. :/

Most of the vets in this area recommend and sell the Pet Odor Exterminator candles and products. They are supposedly all-natural and safe for all kinds of pets but I've never used them so never looked into it on a deeper level. I'll try and get some more details. smile

This is all great info, but does anyone have any experience/info on burning incense? I guess that in comparison to candles, tarts, and the like.. incense would be more likely to be harmful than most of these items given the smoke, etc..

We have always used incense, just never in the room that the gliders are in. Not saying it is safe, but we have done it for the almost 3 years we have had gliders in our home and they are the picture of health so far.

Jana, I think those are the same candles that my vet always has burning in the office. I want one SO BAD because they smell soooo GOOD. Not overpowering at all, but pleasant. And it's a vet, but when you walk in the door you aren't knocked flat by an animal smell like in other vets I have used in the past. Problem... they are VERY expensive *GASP*.

A lot of vets use these, and they are only about $7 and animal friendly. I stocked up last year on Pumpkin Spice and Cracklin' Fireside. Clothesline Fresh seems to be a favorite, also!

Yes you can smile Since it doesn't get too hot from what I've read it's safe to use thumb I don't use one in the glider room yet but I put a candle in there and let it air out before the babies go back in.

So, is the concern with burning candles/using plug-ins with the fumes and vapors they give off, or the smell, or both?

I have a scentsy and it can be pretty strong. I was thinking about putting one of those scented satchels from Bed Bath and Beyond in the suggie room. I just don't see how a smell can cause respiratory problems. Then again, I don't have teeny tiny lungs...

The vapors, the fumes, the smoke.....

I use the odor neutralizer (beads) in my house..they work great and have only a very small odor, less than a regular air freshener but you can smell them if you're close. They work great.

I haven't read this whole thread but I burn incense throughout my house and have plug ins as well. The incense is never close to them but the smell does travel to their room. I do leave a plug in inside their room and have never had problems but the plug in is about 12 feet away from their cages. From what I've noticed if it's bothering them you'll start to hear them sneeze and make noises. Now I DO NOT use air freshener around them because that does bother my gliders. And about the Scentsy stuff, that stuff bothers me when people in the office have theirs going so I'd assume it would be strong enough to bother them as well.

I sell Scentsy. I was also concerned about this issue at first. But if the issue is soot, fumes, vapors, smoke, flame, etc, etc...then people who use Scentsy have nothing to worry about.

Scentsy has no wick that needs to be burned. There is no lead, wick, soot, ash, fumes, etc. It is not toxic to breath, will not stain your walls or furniture, etc.
The wax is not Burned, and therefore there are no Vapors. Unlike candles, the wax is burned and turned into vapors that you breath in.

Hope that helps you feel at ease to use your Scentsy. wave

Are the scentsy candles the ones they advocate safe for dogs and animals? I know my local pet store lady sells them if they are the scentsy otherwise its a different brand. She also always has one burning in the store and it smells really good.

Safe for them as in, they won't get burned if they knock it over. I don't recommend them eating it...
Make sure it's Scentsy brand, because places like Walmart also sell imitation wax that I can't vouch for as safe.

No no no, safe as in no toxic fumes. Anything heated that could burn would be harmful to anyone so would eating a candle. My finacee loves candles (I could care less for them) but I've caught him burning them where the gliders are and I want to give him a safe alternative that I don't have to buy off of the internet. And no it is not wal-mart its a family owned petstore down the street, I know the lady really well and if something wasn't safe she wouldn't sell it. I was just curious if it was the same candles everyone was talking about or if anyone else knows what I'm talking about. If I remember correctly they have a picture of a Dog and Cat on them. In rounded corner square jars, metal tops really nice smelling. (I think I just described almost every candle out there lol)

how about the glade lights with scents that dont plug in the wall? are they bad for gliders too? How about like gel air fresheners, the leave on the table or shelf kind?

I think oil diffusers are another safe choice- anyone else heard one way or the other about them? They don't burn or release particles, just the scent from the oil.

It's a sentsy in my house too! I love the bubble gum. We do not have it in the same room but it is in the room as you exit the glider room.

I am a Scentsy rep and I use the warmer in the kithcen, right by the glider cage and in the bathroom. Of course I always turn them off about 45 mins before they come out just in case. I have never had any problems with them at all hurting the gliders and it keeps my house smelling good. It is also made from a food grade parrafin wax so it is not harmful if eaten.
