I was excited this morning to awaken to the Quick Derm having arrived..
i waited untill she was sleeping to sneak in and place a small tiny bit upon the wound to her back. To my shocking surprise she did this horrible screaming sound and lunged at the q-tip I placed the ointment on. it's as thought it was burning her.. I rushed into the bathroom took her out and got really cold water on a wash cloth tip and placed it to the wound.. She stoped thank God.. but it took all i had to calm her down QUICKLY.. she really scared me
the normal treatment I do is, i use clean q- tips. not the real fat ones just the regular kind..
I put some peroxide on it with a lil bit of water so its 1/2 an 1/2 solution just a tiny bit and i drip it onthe wound an clean it off with a dry one removing what ever bubbles up then I place antibiotics on the wound or ointment given to me by the dr..
an leave her be for the day

I found a small hole tonight an its real small and on the edge of the mate wound area..
I left her in the clean pouch which is changed daily.. and she seemed just fine.. she is still sleeping as we speak.. as she is adusted to my work schedual and is been in a hospital cage just made for her.

So I take it she is allergic to this Medication? Im unsure? I need to go check her wound though.. it not open its just skin deep no infection she just came home frmo a perfect vet check too.. Ill take her tomarrow to have him better look at the open lil hole i found on the wound though but im real concerened this is not normal for the ones who use Quick Derm? Im glad I didnt spread it on the entire wound.. god I can only pray its not going to get infected iv worked for a year on this wound.. remember no e collar nor jacket is helping me right now it goes from HEAD, to her front legs on the back of her to her arm pits.. like a saddle.. i have some pain medication im going to give to her if she is still hurting ... to be continued..
advice please anyone?

oh goodness poor little girl

i dont know anything about the quickderm so i cant help you there

but, i would not reccomend using peroxide especially on such a large wound as it could cause more damage to the wound and could mean a much longer healing time(i did read your other post too)

anyway i hope someone comes along to try to help with whatever happened with the quickderm

good luck

ok.. iv just checked her, there is now infection.. green pussy flim over the entire wound.. I just clleaned her up and flushed the wound more with sterilized water she didnt scream she allowed me to clean her like we normally do our lil routine.. but itwould appear this has given her some sort of chemical burn so no more quick derm for my babies none of them.. I wish it was going to be the mirical cure but now im not sure what to do does the gliders jump and scream when yeah put this on? normal?
because I can do just about anything to the wound an not get this type of responce ..

well she is in my bra for the night Im going to monitor her and feed her some mellies I sure hope she is going to be ok.. she is acting a lil weird like she is hurting real bad or something just not the normal Honey girl...
thank you Ill keep a watch on this.. maybe for some help on what to do now..

she is checked by the vet very often she just was seen , we keep a powder or ointment antibiotic that is safe if she were to get it in her mouth.. but it treats the wound directly.. but it was fine .. now this.. has happend an she is really got me frightened my veets closed he opens at 6 Imma stay by her side till morning if worse comes to worse Imma run her into the ER..

Did your vet recommend the QuickDerm?

That isn't a product I've heard of. And it seems as if not a product that should ever be used on gliders!

You say you have you "little routine." Was that recommended by the vet? Has the vet seen her since this wound happened?

I can't imagine hearing a glider scream in pain can possibly be a good sound. Just hearing them cry makes me cry. If one of mine screamed ... ugh. I don't know what I'd do! Good thing you washed it off of her!

Edit: nevermind - I saw where Val recommended the QuickDerm. Strange! I guess she's had better success with it then you and Jewels!

Maybe you can just give the ER a quick call to ask them regarding the Quick Derm...just a suggestion.

did the vet ok the peroxide use? b/c if so you might want to try and get a second opinion if you have another vet nearby

i cant imagine a vet okaying peroxide for such a large area, if at all. i would ask about betadine next time you go in as it is much milder but i dont know if it is safe for suggies?

is it still pussy after being cleaned? is the puss returning after being cleaned?

good luck and hopefully you can figure out what is going on

Peroxide is a HUGE nono in any wound. What it does is cause tissue death on the top layers of skin and can actually "boil" infection/particles down into a wound.

The only good uses of peroxide are cleaning up earrings, cleaning out ears, bleaching hair and getting blood out of your clothes.

Good Luck at the vets...Keep us posted!

jewels, and I had a long night at the vets, they let her rest in a incubtor and gave her some fluids, pain medication.. the quick derm caused a chimical reaction and it did burn her but I got it in time but it was more painful to her then anything she prolly has experianed. We are flushing the wound out many times with fluids mixed with an antibiotic , also pain medication around the clock for now that is not making her tired just comfortable she is acting alright for now.. Peroxide is 1/2 n 1/2 n has helped my little one.. vet perscribed this last year with an infection she had gotten along with other things to do for her.. so they cut her nails a little shorter then normal to make it so she couldnt rip at the wound more over the next few nights. I have ointments an medication to use and she is being kept warm with towels from the dryer around the clock she seems confortable she was eating this mornign and drinking
The Dr said with anything new being used on little ones,in general to always test a spot on them but this quick derm seemd to just kinda melt on Honey.. turning into a liquid instead of the white cream it is.. might be normal me and the Dr are both unsure since this is not something he uses on smaller babies..
thank you all.. the sreams were horrible and I remembered it an due to the post it's why I took her in..
Im off to go rest with her Im very tired.. we just got home from all of it I wouldnt leave her with them alone.. just not my style I like to stay with my lil onesif at all possible..

Thank you so much for the update.

As I said - I can't imagine hearing my glider scream. Ugh. What a horrible thought.

Get some rest. Glad you got her in and she is on pain meds.

Maybe might help here later on is some I think its called H2O spray, its for piercings and tattoos, it will debride any crusts, and all it is, is water and sea salt. So its all natural. It will dry up any infection. I would ask around on here to see if anyone's used it and if she licks at the wound i wouldn't use, because of the salt. But I think it could be very helpful to you

Walmart and walgreens both have sterile saline solution in a spray-bottle form, it is WAY cheaper than the H2O Ocean spray and essentially the same stuff. It's balanced to a natural level of salt, so I would not worry about your glider licking it off of herself. Salts do inhibit bacterial growths, and the slight pressure coming out of the nozzle is probably lighter than any you can do with the steadiest of hands and a Q-tip.

i would ask for an oral antibiotic to prevent the infection from traveling through her body thus killing her. it cant hurt better safe than sorry. i would definitly get her antibiotics now not just the cream. you need to stop this from traveling. cream alone wont prevent it from going inside her body.

Update on Honey.. aka Jewel's

she has been on total lock down with me and hubby.. not even geting to be in her cage much as she is really a bra baby..
The wound is looking alot better.. I am thinking the new medication of antibiotic's is helping her the wound is acually closing up.. in a rapid speed im real shocked as I expected it was going to turn in for the worse.. but all is looking good, and the antibiotic's are still being given for a week's time.. along with some ointment that has some pain medicine in it, along with oral medicine..

Ever hear of gliders having socks on their feet?
The dr cut her nails real short with out them bleeding of course.. putting a self adhesive tape on her lil feet going just enough up the leg's so she could walk supportivly.. but she couldnt bend her legs back to scratch the wound..
seems to be working and since she is on me an b eing monitored I think its why the wound could be accually closing up.. she cant get to it like she has been.. interesting concept but working for our lil girl for the moment..

I'm glad to hear she is doing better and the wound is closing. You need to post a picture of her socks tho, they sound interesting.

clap I am so happy to hear she is doing so much better! clap

Yes I have seen socks or cloves on a glider, my vet also uses that method to distract them from messing with the site. It works really well and keeps them busy. thumb

He put socks on her for the night she stayed in recovery room and incubator an two nights following with morning vet chck up an at night. I didnt even think of geting a picture my mind was else where.. but picture a gliders front legs broken, he just bandeaged them up with small lil stints in place to keep them straight. and a cotton bal in her hands to hold on to to make her paws comfortable while being wraped. long term exposure would have caused stiffness and other issues we didnt need. her wound has closed up well I gave her back a shower last night and cleaned the wound intensly the burning caused small little blisters in multipule area's even where their was hair.. the wound is creeping closed though and she is under extreem supervison right now. The pain medicine helped us also while she was in the socks keeping her calm was just real imporant but she is a pit bitter so we just had no real choice in some options on how to help her. Denise and I working on a new cage Idea for Honey for long term Hospitalization reasons honey doesn't get much room to play due to wight loss and activities are very limited she is fine being a bra baby
Im thankful for everyones support
Please if you use QuickDerm, please test a pin [censored] on the baby first please I was seeking help an I am not regretful in trying it I should have remembered the first rule try it on myself first and 24 hours later the baby in a small non hurt area to see the reaction..
you are all awesome and I pray blessings upon each of you care givers..

Thank you so much for letting us know how things are going. It sounds like your baby has a long road ahead of her, but you're doing everything right! Good luck with her and please, continue to update us on her progress!
