We got Jewel's last year, wonderful lil girl glider and her kinda sorta partner, who gave her a mating wound.
Im asking for some help Im out of idea's and solutions in helping her with this wound that has been open for almost a year now, yes that is right a year now, and she has the best perfect bill of health and vet checks regularly. The vet said oh this can take a while.. ok but she has a partner who misses her an her him and I need this skin wound to just close up.
someone told me of some ointment that is new an it's quick something?
it works real fasts at the wounds.
No I cant get a e collar on her, the Jacket no longer works she figures it out with in a weeks time any changes I made to get her to just leave it alone. I dunno anymore Im real over it the wound it's self.. not the baby girl. and I absolutelyhate her being alone because she loves her partner an he her..
oh we did the scarlet oil also, which had to be done very very carefully but it was way to risky for our situation since she eats anything put on her wound even bandages etc.. Im wandering nwo if she has went into a lil SM ... just a lil bit the wound now goes from shoulder to shoulder, to the back of her head.. please leme know. thank you

can you take her to the vet so HE can put an ecollar on her? you will HAVE to do something like that or it will never heal if shes picking at it. im sorry shes not healing well, im sure its very upsetting!

From the sounds of it the wound prevents the use of an ecollar.

I wish I had some suggestions for you.

The ointment is called QuickDerm....and I have yet to find a vet's office that has it in stock. (I've called the 2 glider vets here, neither have ever HEARD of it) The only place I've been able to find it is online. If you google "QuickDerm" you'll find about half a dozen places that sell it. It's not cheap (costs about $27.00 per tube plus shipping) BUT....it's worth every penny for the magic it does for mating wounds. What could take 4-6 weeks to heal is usually pretty much closed up in just 2 weeks.

Ask around down where you are....hopefully somebody has heard of it & might have ordered it. If not, let me know.

Wow, that is a LONG time to have an open wound! Is it infected, or it just won't heal and close up?

You may get some helpful suggestions on The Sweet Spot. That board is run by Val/Jackie_Chans_Mom, Something_to_believe_in who has had experience with many medical issues.

I hope you find some answers for your little girl.

My vet gave me a tube of Soother Plus Cream when one of my gliders had an sm wound. BUT, he was in an ecollar and the wound was small. He was healed within a week. I doubt this stuff could be used without using an ecollar though.

Use the Quickderm. You can order it on Amazon. You only need a very small tube, as you will only use a very small bit of it. A 7.5 g tube is only about $12 on Amazon. Once you use it, you will see why so many of us rave about it.

You are welcome to call me any time. If Amazon is sold out, give me a shout and I'll tell you other places you can order it online.

Do NOT use it without your vet's permission and supervision. The wound will heal so quickly in some cases, that it can cause a subdermal infection if there is any bacterial infection going on. It is best to use Quickderm along with an oral antibiotic or a Convenia shot.

Do not cover the wound with any sort of jacket or wrap. That will slow healing.

If you have any other questions or concerns, call me, or find me over on the Sweet Spot.

Best of luck!

Sad that Jewel has to go through this and is missing her mate, and him her. I applaud you for trying to resolve the matter. Did you get an opinion from a different vet as well? Jackie_Chans_Mom gave some great advice. Please keep us posted!

Jewel has been in my care for almost a Year, with constant vet checks on the wound. He has said he has seen this in other small animals an they have not made it because most generally it gets real infected. I keep Jewel's cage spotless and her sleeping area as well. I keep her groomed its been a very long haul. She is put on antibiotic's every other month to keep infections away. again its been difficult because no the E-colalr WILL NOT work. its from her shoulders all the way across, almost under her arm pits, to the head. Its my fault I shouldnt have ut her back with JJ, aka Misant. Nuterned Male now. But the wound was healed an they were doing so well I went to sleep an woke with her yelling at him alot.
So misant will not be able to be with a Female who drives him nuts to want to ( hump) her. Denise and I are going to work on a new partner for him that is a Nutered Male. as for Jewel's aka Honey.. she is wonderful but doesn't play nice with other females, Im thinking she is going to be my lone baby but I hope notiv not gotten a chance to introduce her to a female.
She lives with us in our room under constant monitoring, I alwaysknow when she is scratching at herself. Im wondering if she is become SM to the area it's hurt for so long and continues to hurt even medication for pain doesn't help she has become imune. the vet an I tryed to give her some to calm her long enough to get a jacket on her proper and long lassting and she wouldnt fall asleep Were talking about a Pit Bitter baby here also..
Im geting the quick Derm as we speak Im going to rush order it over. Ill wear her on me, for the two weeks I dont care I can do that. if it would just heal enough to close Im poSITIVE she will leave it be.
thank you so much for the courage it's been real rough, on me since I work etc. I even called Denise thinking I was just a bad mom.. frown but with asurance all things help.
speak with everyone real soon Ill keep a watch on other post as well..
Love

Val's advice is wonderful (as always)...esp about the oral antibiotics...just in case there is an infection inside the wound. Did your vet give you any?

Glad to hear the QuickDerm arrived!!! I've never used it...PM Val and ask her....I hope it works fast on your girl and she's on the road to recovery!

I love the QuickDerm. My vet had to special order it for me. But it did the trick and you just use a teeny tiny amount. We had a tail wound that we couldn't get healed up. Everytime I would think we almost had it, she would somehow get her collar off and chew it to the bone again. Three surgery's later and no hair on her neck in order to keep the e-collar on, the QuickDerm did it. It was a long process, but not as long as yours. Hope you get it all fixed up so she and her buddy can get back together.

accually I had to call the vet today because Cla vet never sent me the medication. However she is going to the vet today to get re hydrated a little an him to inspect the wound for a possible Syst of sorts untill I recieved the accual quick derm I was doing something else that should have taken care of the situation. but she re opened it herself again last night. shakes head my worrie is , is she going to get hair back in this area thats been open for a year? and will she ever get to be with Misant I dunno. But my DR is going to look her over again today she goes in for vet checks about every two weeks I mean were speaking of a wound that is only skin deep an wont close on her . I did a cotton swab test on the cage there is no issues, at the moment I cant find anything she would be re opening it with or on...
I feel real sorry for jewels but I am also doing everything I can I mean think about it a wound open for a year an absolutely no infection? thats real good in my eyes... Ill keep you all up dated here soon. through out this week an I WIILL take starter pictures to finish with the quick derm IF I get the dang stuff.. they said it will be here tomarrow...
