i've seen some people carry their glider in their pouch everywhere they go.
some even seem to take it to work!
i think that sounds rather neat, but is it safe for the glider?
how do gliders react to being outside? i mean out of the pouch and outside. say you are at a park and want to show her off to a buddy of yours.
do they freak out? are they friendly? should they be exposed only for a few seconds and then back in the pouch?

thanks all
aaron

I stongly caution owners from actually taking their gliders out while outside. It really isn't worth the risk of losing your beloved pet. If your glider is stronly bonded with you, showing them off can be easier, but I usually just play it safe and keep them tucked away.

I take my sugs everywhere with me (safely tucked away in a pouch or bra) including work. Actually, I'm at work with two sugs right now (shame on me for sneaking online during work hours!!!!). I try to keep them out of restaurants just because if they are noticed, you can get in big trouble. However, I am guilty of taking them out to lunch with me more than once.

If you must show them off in public and I do understand how hard it is not to, then just open the pouch for a brief peek.

My gliders don't seem to mind being taken on errands and things. If people want to see, I unzip to give them a quick peek. The girls usually stay asleep or look up sleepily. I would wait until you are familiar with your gliders before unzipping a pouch, and I would never open mine if I were outside - I'm a little overprotective, perhaps.

I agree with what has already been said… it does depend on your glider and the situation….. and I would never open the pouch outdoors… in some places gliders just are not appropriate… as noted restaurants are probably not a good idea, and I know that I can not bring my to work… but I have taken them many other places…

Also avoid taking them to big events like concerts, weddings, etc. The loud noise can really stress them out and scare them. I often drive over to St. Louis and walk up and down the street going into the little stores and that is great place to bring the sugs. I'll visit the riverfront and the arch with suggies (or ferrets to be honest) and it's alot of fun! Stich was so quiet that I even took him to museums with me!

Everywhere but out to dinner - and that is because they want to come up for dinner of their own! I too am at work (in a library of all places) with a suggie snuggled in my shirt - everyone knows that I work with - they think it's cute and call me crazy....but i have a well trained well bonded glider that is over 3 years old - I would never do it with my new baby!

I am a grad student so it might be a little different with me...I take mine everywhere (except places with loud noise like movie theaters, concerts, etc..). Mine even ride the local bus with me. I always make sure that if we are out that they are kept in a zippered pouch and that the pouch is tucked safely away between some shirts. Giz is pretty desensitized to people, so showing him to someone new while he is in the pouch is no problem. Shinobi is still too young to be shown off (10 weeks oop) so I avoid it.

what happens when your glider feels like coming out in a place were hes not supposed to... say a restaurant or outdoors?
do you all just keep them zipped in their pouch?

I normally keep my guys zipped up...but that doesn't mean there haven't been times that the guys have gotten out (like in the car). The biggest thing at that point is to remain calm (and park the car if you are in one) and try to gather your little one back into his pouch. It also helps to solicite help if anyone is available.

PS If you are worried about restricting your sg's in a pouch go for a big pouch with a peerk through front. That way they can see what is going on.

I had several bonding pouches that I purchased online from different vendors, but to me, they just lacked something. First of all, the "windows" were up high in the pouch. The gliders slept at the bottom. Showing them off; especially since they're not well bonded yet was difficult at best. So, I got my sister who sews to customize some pouches for me. Now I have dressier pouches that I can take anywhere and best of all, she's added a large, lowered window with a button up/down flap so they're EASY to show off safely. I just lift the flap and show them off. If we're in the shade I can open the flap and let them get some fresh air or I can just let it close so they get the breeze but not the bright light. I truly love these pouches. It's the main reason we started selling them on our own site.

I take my gliders everywhere, but they are all extremely bonded to me (we spend about 12-15 hours a day together). I also always carry a pouch. If any of them are at all squirmy while I'm out and about, in the pouch they go. If I'm out in the evening and I think it may be getting late, I also bring their travel cage so they can be comfortable until we get home.

suggiemom2three, the pouch design your sister came up with sounds great! Does she make and sell those for others?

I take my gliders with me a lot of places because they are sleeping during the day, and people don't even notice that you have them. As long as you aren't at a very loud an busy place, such as six flags, or a concert, it is usually safe to take your gliders along.

[:"green"]I take my gliders everywhere, including shopping at grocery & clothing stores. It is very important to keep them in a secure bonding pouch so that if they get antsy & active, they don't get out & bother the other shoppers.

I am curious what you do if you are in for an example a store and they start to make noises and people start staring?

Sure, people look at you funny when they crab. We probably all have a horror story or two about our gliders sounding off in public at a very bad time. You just do what you can to make the best of the situation.

It doesn't bother me at all when mine crab in public. I just pet them and talk to them. Who cares what people think? The curious ones ask and come look, others just pretend they don't hear it....LOL Still others look at me as if I'm absolutely certifiable, which, I probably am....LOL

I take Gizmo everywhere....work, shopping, out on the weekend day trips with my fiance....he's with me all the time....he's very well-bonded so opening up the pouch for people to see is never a problem, he looks more annoyed than anything that I've disturbed his slumber lol........

simply tell people that when you're hungry, your stomach often moves and crabs loudly.
or if you get in trouble, simply run out of the store screaming, THE BABY'S COMING!!! and maybe they won't ask questions. ^_^ lol

Mine are with me all day long, every day in a zippped pouch. They go to the store, work, out to eat, church, etc., etc.
I carry a cage that has a wheel, dry food and water in the car in case they awaken while I am out late. Mine are well bonded... sooo showing them off means unzipping the pouch. Usually their little faces look up and everyone says --"SOOO Cute!" If mine come out in the daytime, it usually means they want a drink or to potty and then they are ready to go right back in the pouch.
I love taking them with me!!!!!!

Mine also go with me to work, grocery shopping, visiting my parents, etc. My 3 year old is really well-behaved. I can trust her on short potty trips outside during the work day (she actually comes out of the pouch, and I sit cross legged while she goes in the middle of my legs and does her thing, then she runs back in the pouch.) I have even taken her to parties and let me tell you, she will do a head-dive into a margarita and drink it all up before you can say "What?" lol but she loves the attention and commotion at parties. My two younger, not as bonded children could never do that, so they stay home unless I am going to work or somewhere quiet. They even went with me to get my tax returns done! lol

My kids go everywhere.. they have been to weddings, funeral, baby showers, out to eat.. you name it. But I make sure we are home by 9pm, they get restless after that.
Hey thier better behaved than the human kid.
